how does everyone prepare & store bottles

my whole life every single mother around me made all the bottles up for the day, stored them in the fridge and just took it out when baby needed a feed within the hour. so naturally that’s what i did. at first i was skeptical because we had 5 different midwives/HVs tell us all completely different things…about feeding/sleeping/changing, all of their “facts” were really just their preferred opinions it seems :/ i know some people have strong opinions on this subject. i was thinking about buying a prep machine but one of the HVs said they aren’t suitable at all. so how was you taught to make bottles? & how do you make them now? i think for my next i will either keep it the same way or try the nuby rapid cool. please add any other ways you prep! :)

We started with a prep machine but have swapped to a rapid cool as we found it was making my Lg's wind bad

We started with the prep and it give my LO really bad trapped wind, switched to the rapid cool!

We boil the water, transfer to a bottle, let it sit for 30 mins to cool down and then add the formula. We prep what we need for the day all at once

I’m a single mum and have used rapid cools since she was about a month old. It’s so much easier!

We prep 24oz at a time using a formula mixing pitcher. Once that is almost empty we make another batch. Some days I make one batch and others I'm making two just depends on the timing of kiddos eating that day

I used prep machine with my first, no issues at all, then now I have a 3 month old and midwife said they aren't safe so I just use it for emergencies incase me or my partner haven't made up his bottle which is rare, I boil the kettle with fresh water each time, let it cool for 20-30 minutes and make up his bottles for the day, pop them in the back of the fridge and use within 24 hours. We've had no issues at all, and it makes life so much easier, especially with having a toddler, too.

I've always prepped for the day and stored, then used within 24-36hrs. Never had an issue and I've got 3 kids

I didn’t have a problem with prep machine with my first apartment from the cleaning and maintenance is a lot. With my second I’ve done the hot shot method. So 2oz or so of boiling water, mix with formula then top up to the right amount with cooled boiled water. Basically what the prep machine does but myself

my little girl refuses milk if it isn’t freezing cold (even room temp she won’t have) so i make up bottles for the day in the fridge and just get out when necessary

@Hayley hey I’ve been thinking of switching to this method. Do you mind me asking how you store the cool boiled water?

Prep machine is now advertised as following the NHS guidelines. A hospital paediatrician actually told me to get it over doing the prep all and storing method when baby was in hospital at 3 days old. However, I have used every method you have added. We use the prep machine in the house, rapid cool out of the house. I find making them up and storing them in the fridge was actually more effort trying to warm it to a suitable temp without a bottle warmer. Once she got to about 7 months I started to just fill a bottle with boiled water and take the milk with us then mix together when she needed it. It took about 2 hours for a 8oz bottle of hot water to be the right temp so if she needed it before this I’d use the rapid cool. Prep machine is easiest, you change the filter every 3 months and only needs occasional cleaning cycle if you don’t use it every day x

Make all mine for the day and store in fridge and heat in jug when needed

I think you should follow the instructions on the can. There have been reported infant deaths from not sterilizing formula, so if you want to prep, I'd use the method someone suggested about boiled water in a thermos and adding it to the formula in the bottles when you need a bottle.

@Monét hi hunny, the formula is sterile the way i do it :) we like to filter the water then boil it, however when we’ve had time away from home it’s been hard to get filtered water :( i have occasionally used the method with the water in a thermos, i just find it much easier to prep them all at the same time and use within 24 hours. however i have seen some new ways of prepping which is cool! id love to try out the nuby rapid cool way but he will soon be off milk so i will save it for the second time round haha ❤️ thank you for your advice lovely!

thank you all for your amazing & informing comments ❤️ love to hear the different ways people prep!
