Iv seen loads of people out babies and toddlers in car seat with jackets or coats but Iv always been told it’s not safe

Is it actually recommended by car seat manufacturers to remove outerwear as I’ve never seen it in paper, I know it’s too cold to take toddler out with no coat in winter, what’s everyone’s thoughts?

I always unstrap my LO from the car seat but while she’s still sitting put her coat on and zip before pulling her out of the car. If someone didn’t see the whole process they may think she rode in the car with the coat the whole time.

A big jacket is not okay but a hoodie are cardigan is fine.

I put it on before and after they are in there seats. I then take it off when about to buckle them

They can wear a jumper but not a big puffy coat, if that makes sense

It’s not safe to wear in the car seat but it’s up to you if it’s worth the faff, depending on what we’re doing/where we’re going sometimes it’s quicker to just go inside than spend 5 mins putting on my toddlers coat when we’re just going to take it off again, if your car is cold have a blanket to go over the car seat straps

I think people are just lazy, unless your car is 5 miles away, hurry up and put the child without coat in the car and put the coat on upon leaving the car to run errands, it takes 2 minutes. I do a lot of driving as I am just a car girl, me and baby have been out almost every day since a month after his birth up until now 14 months after, and never caught a cold if that is the excuse people use. Laziness can not possibly override your child safety 🤷🏾‍♀️

Never in the car but if you saw me pushing him around in his car seat on the pram, he’s wearing a coat cause it’s cold. It comes off for the car though!

I work in the industry, it is dangerous

@Shannon as OP said I never seen it written on the car seat manufacturer user guide, I learned it by talking to other parents and could see the fit wasn't well with the coat on. As you work in the industry, do you know why they don't explicitly put it in? Or is it written at your company?

I work for a retailer so we simply share information we receive in training from manufacturers/IOSH however I know a lot of major manufacturers have official info to read on the matter e.g https://www.cybex-online.com/en/gb/p/CS_PL_Cloud_T_i-Size_EN.html#l-pdp-faq Cybex mention it in their FAQ under usage https://www.maxi-cosi.co.uk/c/car-seat-safety-tips#:~:text=Take%20your%20child's%20coat%20off,a%20blanket%20over%20the%20harness. Maxi cosi have a dedicated page to safe usage and mention it there What I will say is there is a lot of work to be done in our country when it comes to education around car seat safety which has to come from official government bodies. Some NHS websites do mention it but not all, there needs to be clearer information given to parents https://www.mkuh.nhs.uk/patient-information-leaflet/car-seat-information#:~:text=Seats%20with%20an%20integral%20harness,stay%20secure%20at%20all%20times.
