Cruise

Thinking about booking a cruise for our first family holiday. What are the best family friendly cruise lines to go with? And that have the best facilities for kids on board? Little one is 19mo šŸ„° would probably be almost 2 by the time we go.

Royal Caribbean are brilliant for families with children. If you wanna do Disney- that would be a whole vibe! šŸ˜

Have you looked into any cruises already? Xx

Royal Caribbean most definitely the best. Disney can sometimes be cheaper, so always worth a look, as it's just magical. Then I would say as long as you try and opt for a new ship, or at least recently renovated, most cruise lines would work. Maybe P&O and cunard are more aimed at adults or older children. Cruising is changing tbh. If you want, I can take a look for you, I'm a travel agent who deals heavily with young families x

@Samira Iā€™ll check those out, thank you. We havenā€™t really looked at any yet but we probably want to depart from the uk so we donā€™t have to fly as well which would rule out Disney, as amazing as that looks! Xx

@Jess thank you for this, really helpful. We probably want to depart from the uk so that will rule a lot out I guess, including Disney. In what way is it changing? Weā€™ve never done a cruise before so completely new to it! Thatā€™s a really kind offer but I donā€™t want to waste your time as weā€™re not even sure weā€™ll go for a cruise yet. Just a potential option at this stage x

Weā€™ve done 2 cruises now with our 1 year old, definitely feel like theyā€™re the way to go at the minute while sheā€™s on the move but not old enough to be in the pool all the time like at a resort, keeps them busy being out at new ports every day ā˜ŗļø Weā€™ve done Marella purely as I work for TUI and get them cheaper. Not massively child orientated but definitely child friendly. P&O, MSC and Royal Caribbean are meant to be fab for children. Disney are doing some sailings from Southampton too ā˜ŗļø x

@Hannah that's great to hear, thank you. Yeah our boy wouldn't be happy being in a pool all day! He needs to be kept busy and loads of different environments. I'll have a look at those and that's good to know with Disney! I'll check them out too then! X

We went with p&o on iona, we loved it! So family friendly, good food, loads going on & freedom dining so not tied to meal times. I cant wait to book another x

@Rebecca morning! So sorry for the delay I've been away! Google cruise timetable, this is a great website and you can filter by departure port. There's lots of disney departures from Southampton. I wouldn't opt for Fred olden or ambassador, as these are small ships going from smaller ports like Liverpool and Bristol etc, but these are 99% adult only. Southampton is the way to go. It's changing in a good way, towards families! Used to be very adult orientated! This is why the newer ships are better, post 2020 build or renovation. It's not a problem, just reach out if you want me to look over it, it's no more expensive for me to sort BTW. Xx

@Sarah sounds great, I'll check them out! X

@Jess that's ok! Thank you so much, I will take a look at that! Great to hear they're becoming more family oriented. Thank you so much xx

Weā€™re going on a cruise next month with P&O and my daughter will be 23 months. I think sheā€™s going to love it, when we went to a resort last year it was so hard just to lay by a pool so I think with so much going on and getting off the ship and out and about, will actually be easier. I know on the ship weā€™re going on there are kids clubs but for under 2ā€™s you canā€™t leave them. They also have an evening nursery where you can leave your little ones of an evening and get a pager so they can contact you (if thatā€™s something youā€™d want to do itā€™s not for me personally), and they have characters like Shaun the sheep on board. Some pools allow children but not all and they have early sittings for meals, a childrenā€™s menu etc. Hope that helps!

@Kayleigh thatā€™s what I was thinking, he loves doing different things so was hoping something like a cruise might have enough going on to keep him entertained! Yeah I wouldnā€™t be leaving him in a kids club or anything either. Iā€™ve read about that with the pools, that would definitely be something Iā€™d need to check. Thatā€™s helpful to know with meals too. Iā€™ve started wondering what heā€™ll actually be able to eat now though as he has allergies! Thatā€™s really helpful though, thank you!
