I’ve had the copper coil since January. For me personally, it’s been amazing! I was also breastfeeding so was eager to have something completely hormone free as I felt I wanted to allow my hormones to settle naturally (after having baby) and not add extra in via a pill etc. I’ve been on contraceptive pills in the past and they haven’t agreed with me. The coil insertion was a little uncomfortable but nothing major and it can last 5-10 years depending on the type. In my experience, it hasn’t affected my periods, they are just as they were before. It’s also nice to know that, when I’m ready for baby number two, it’s just case of it being removed and I would be ready to start trying - no waiting for hormones to ‘be out my system’ ☺️
Oh no I didn’t know that about the evra patch! That’s my go to contraception too. The prescribed me the mini pill as apparently you can’t use the patch while breastfeeding either.
How are 50% of you not using anything?!
@Rebecca pull-out or condoms is my guess🤷🏼♀️😆 I'm on the implant but I have debated coming off it honestly. Me and my partner barely have a sex life since having the baby anyway haha
I’m on the patch x
I've been on the implant since I was about 16, this is my fourth one. I had it put in, in December at 6 months pp. I preferred the peace of mind knowing I was covered for 3 years, but also didn't like the idea of the coil so it seemed like the next best option. The only thing I have to say about it is that with each one, my body has reacted differently. E.g. irregular periods. But I've found with this one I've not had any periods at all. So again, it's been a completely different experience. I do keep debating coming off BC though because I just don't like being on it. But also not wanting another baby for a good few years, so probably not worth the risk
I have the copper coil. It’s great because it isn’t hormonal and doesn’t mess with the length of my periods or when I get them, but the cramps are more intense and the bleeding is more heavy.
Condoms / pull and pray 👀
Hey, I'm on the same pill as you. The pill was horrible for me for the first 3 months. Terrible moods, etc. Mentally, I was fine after the 3 month mark. However, I do bleed on this pill. I've been having periods each month. They are getting lighter each time. So I'm hoping soon they will stop as your not ment to have a period on this pill 🫠. But if it wasn't for the bleeding then I'm happy with the pill. Once my hormones relaxed. X
Just condoms for us as well, the pill has never been good for me personally!
@Levi I also have the copper coil, and generally find it great! My periods are a little heavier, but I don't get painful cramps and have no other side effects, so it's very worth it for me!
For those of you who have had the copper coil how did you find the insertion.. for want of a better expression 🤣🤣 and how long did the appointment take?
I had my smear and coil done at the same time and I honestly was so pleasantly surprised at how fine it was!! Obviously everyone is very different when it comes to pain but I was fully expecting the worst walking in there. It was just uncomfortable rather than painful for me! I think my appt was probably around 30/40 mins or so? But that includes chatting through everything to begin with, signing consent forms, having the smear, the coil inserted and then the ‘aftercare’. They asked you to remain laying on the bed for a little while to ensure you’re okay.
I do the cycle tracking and pull out. Definitely not the most reliable 🤣 but also, while we don't plan on having such a small gap we want more kids so it wouldn't be the end of the world

I have the mirena coil, it’s my second one! It lasts 8 years and the first completely stopped my periods which is a bonus for me as I work outside without much toilet access!
Mini pill, specifically cerelle as I found that paticular brand gave me no side effect
I've tried Desogestrel, it made me feel terrible, physically and mentally. I didnt like the idea of the implant or the coil but I ended up going for the hormone free copper coil and honestly its been the best decision ive ever made x
