Yes, it happened to me and I worried a lot. I then decided to stick to pureed food and start workin my way up from there with textures. He is 7months old, his gaggibg reflex is still very strong but he does eat things like broccoli florets/coliflor, he likes boiled tomato or orange slices so i am introducing things slowly and doing some things mashed as opposed to pureed food (ie boiked apple and banana mashed vs pureeing with a blender). we are still working on it but getting a bit better id say
It's so normal! They have to learn how to swallow and their instinct is to get it out of their throat. It's really distressing to us but nbd to them. You can switch to puree like Paloma said, or just give them finger foods they're unlikely to actually be able to bite - like half a cucumber or a whole strawberry, where they'll just kind of nom on it without getting a chunk off.
My boy is exactly the same! He’s even gagging at purées but I’m not putting pressure on it just keep offering a small amount each day and hopefully he’ll slowly get used to it!
Thank you everyone for the reassurance. We will stick to purée. I did give home some purée last night - just a few spoons and he kept it down. I could see him almost starting to panic so I stopped
