Tens machine

I'm due in a few weeks and wondering if a TENS machine is worth the investment?? This is my second pregnancy and I found my first labour very intense and painful so considering a tens machine to help ease contractions but they are quite pricey so looking to know if they're worth it? Thanks!

I used one with my first, I found the sensation weird but it was quite distracting. I only used it in early labour, it sort of just feels like a tingling on your back

I rented a tens machine for my first daughter's birth and in all honesty I found it didn't help. I ended up launching it in my husband's direction because it wasn't making any difference to my pain. I know it works for some people just not for me x

I rented a tens machine and mainly used it at home before I went into hospital. It really helped with my contractions. I'd rent rather than buying.

I liked mine up until I was 4CM dilated then it wasn’t doing anything. I would recommend renting one! This is the one I rented and it was a very straightforward process X https://amzn.eu/d/c0goNKn

Thanks everyone it's really helpful getting some feedback. I think I'll definitely hire one! I hadn't thought of this as an option so thank you!

I rented a machine - I didn’t find it helped with pain, but it gave me a distraction and something to focus on (pushing the “surge” button every time a contraction started and stopped). Mine also timed contraction length and the space between for me, so one less thing to do!

No advice for tens, but wanted to add that labor for second pregnancies are (still painful but) generally much faster and somewhat less intense than for first births since your body has been through it before. It's not that way for everyone, of course, but it might help you feel better as you're thinking about and picturing what this birth might be like...

You can rent them for like £22 online hun x

It didn’t do anything to help my pain whatsoever. If anything it just added a stinging sensation. I guess the one benefit would be that it slightly distracted me because I had to press certain buttons at a certain time. Wouldn’t personally recommend

My first pregnancy, I had a really dated one and did nothing. My second pregnancy I hired a newer one and it was fab! It definitely helped with my home birth 🤎

It was a good distraction, wasn’t groundbreaking or anywhere near as effective as being in water.
