Moms please tell me…

When did you hear your babies heartbeat? I’m having SUCH a bad experience with my office. I’m 13 weeks and I still haven’t heard my babies heartbeat all of my mom friends have heard their baby’s heartbeat as early as 7 weeks!! I’m so so upset my sono tech kept making excuses saying it’s not safe I can only hear it in my second trimester after 14 weeks. She doesnt tell me anything during the appointment… doesn’t say my baby is measuring normal or showing me the hands legs or anything shes just sitting there quiet trying to get over the appointment. I got to the point I’m changing my office. Am I crazy or ??

I would change offices…. I heard baby’s heart beat at our first appointment (9 weeks 1 day) I went in for an ultrasound thinking I was farther along. (Almost 13 weeks) but we still got to see baby on the ultrasound watch the heart beat and hear it… And every appointment after that they used to Doppler to hear his heart beat. Which was always the best part of the appointment. Yes it’s harder to find in the beginning because they are so small. But a trained tech will find it. (May take a few minutes) but they always found it. And let us listen for a few minutes

Change offices. My baby was EXTREMELY stubborn when she was little. My office had to do an ultrasound at every appointment bec she wouldn’t let them get a heart beat. You definitely shouldn’t have to wait until second trimester.

I don't think you're crazy. I heard and saw my baby's heart beat at my 8week dating scan. At 16weeks we did a gender scan (gender hidden for the reveal) but saw all the limbs and everything. I would change offices ASAP and get an appointment as soon as they have one and also maybe file a complaint for that tech/office

My office said it was policy to not hear it until second trimester so I booked a third party ultrasound at 9w...I NEEDED that reassurance after several losses, no regrets. But having said that, I'd be switching offices with that kind of apathy

15 weeks at a private scan. It’s usually between 16 and 24 weeks with the NHS as standard

I would change providers. I saw my baby and heard the heart beat at my first appointment. I was 7 weeks

I heard mine at 7 weeks, but they gave me the option because it was a rainbow baby and I was experiencing bleeding. The also explained the reasoning. When they’re so small, listening to the heart is different then looking at the sound waves of the heart. When they’re in the first trimester it actually heats up, and focuses on the heart which is itty bitty at the time. It can higher your risk of miscarriage, not cause but definitely higher the risk. If I have another and it’s a normal pregnancy I won’t hear baby till the second trimester and that’s okay with me.

8 weeks with my first 13 with my second

I'm in Canada and I had my first appointment when I was 12 weeks and they also didn't let us hear babies heartbeat for safety. Didn't explain anything just said no. We paid for an ultrasound package and had another one at 16 weeks and we were able to hear it! It's definitely heartbreaking. Nobody told me I wouldn't get to hear it so I was really looking forward to it!

Technically the fetal heart isn't actually fully formed until 10-12 weeks, so any "heart beat" before then is really just pulsatile electrical activity of the fetal cells. Most offices have a policy to only hear heartbeat on Doppler (usually done after 14 weeks) because it's harder to find sound when your uterus is still in the pelvis and it can cause increased anxiety if they're unable to hear it, even if they can see the activity.

i’m shocked at everyone saying to change doctors offices. i’m from the UK, and my midwife at my 16 week appointment used the doppler for the first time to hear the heartbeat, and she said if we can’t find it then not to panic and some can’t be heard or found until 20+ weeks x

My first two ultrasound appointments the babies heartbeat was seen but they don’t listen to it on the ultrasound at my clinic. We used the Doppler and first heard it at 15 weeks which my midwife said is usually big enough to hear by then.

I didn’t hear the heartbeat at 8 weeks. But saw it in the ultrasound. I heard the heartbeat at the second ultrasound around 13 weeks. I have Kaiser in California.

I heard mine around 12 weeks for the first time at home and 12w2d in the clinic. Usually you can't hear the heartbeat before that, but everyone is different and some don't hear it until a little later

Maybe we need an updated question. Have you been able to have an ultrasound?

I heard mine at 8 weeks .. but I changed Ob offices 3 times before I found the right one for me.. don’t feel bad about shopping around especially while you’re in the beginning stages. Also OB offices fill up fast so if you aren’t liking this one you should look into booking somewhere else ❤️..
