Gestational diabetes

So I've been doing 7 days blood sugar monitoring. My fasting blood sugar readings gave been high but the past 2 days they have been absolutely fine. I've been told I'm being put on metformin because of the slightly raised fasting blood sugar results but it doesn't make any sense to me. The rest of the results are fine so don't know why I'm being told to take this. I'm also low iron, low b12, have low blood pressure all the time and am on lamotrigine for epilepsy so really don't want to take more medication if I don't have to

This something you should discuss with your OB or Midwife

I have tried but they aren't getting back to me

If it’s through the portal they won’t. You should go in when you have an appt or make a appt sooner.

From what I know when I had it, fasting sugars are the hardest to control and having multiple in a row shows a trend that as your pregnancy progresses it could get worse You could ask if there’s a delay in taking the medication if you can but in the long run it will help

I had gestational diabetes with my 2nd kiddo. Sugar levels when pregnant are very strict and must be controlled for your and baby's health. They go off patterns like Brittany mentioned. I was on insulin for breakfast and overnights but my lunch and dinner levels were fine once I adjusted my eating habits. My insulin dose was adjusted every 3 days or when a new pattern came up. Everyone is different

@Brittany the last 2 nights I've had a snack before I go to sleep and my sugars seem to be fine when I wake up. I've asked to go and see someone tomorrow so I'll speak to them to see if I do this I can delay medication

I found eating a smaller portion at dinner and then a snack before bed would bring down the fasting level. I was recommended to take overnight insulin but I didn’t want to so I just said no and they didn’t mention it again.

I was told a snack before bed could help fasting sugars (it didn’t for me) but good luck!
