If you saw someone using an Amex card, what do you think?

I’m in Australia and my main thought was usually “why” because they have much higher credit card fees when using them than the alternatives. I usually just assume it’s a work credit card or they fly a lot and use the points

@Kate right? I live in the US and wouldn’t ever. It has so many additional, higher fees and many countries don’t allow them to be used. Nahhhhh I think silly choice 😂

I have Amex and has a lot of rewards/benefits.

I don’t have one but my MIL does and my wife and I have experienced some perks 🤷🏻‍♀️ and they are nice!

We used Amex for business and personal and they have been great. Tons of perks and we collect avios which we use almost every month with airlines. When we travel to places that might not use Amex we pay with a curve card and assign the Amex to that card, so we still use the Amex and get the points.

Might be different now but when I was younger it seemed like a lot of places didn't take them so I always wondered what the point was. Now I don't pay too much attention to what cards people are using

I travel a lot for work, and racking up airline points is useful. My last summer holiday was 90% paid for in Amex points

With any credit card, as long as you pay your statement balance every month, you should be fine. Different credit card types have different purposes

For clarity, I have an Amex for the points, and a normal mastercard credit card for when Amex isn't accepted.

good for the perks but only really worth it if you can pay it off monthly, as like you said, they have massive interest rates!

Do you even know how Amex works? It’s not a credit card. It’s a charge card. It has to be paid off in full every month or you’re basically paying double.

It works like a credit card or rewards , someone can be bankrupt and have a credit card, honey do the research first, okay and be careful! 💛💛🌟🫶🏼 if you’re asking about a love interest

I use my Amex everyday. It’s great for flying as well. Which we do pretty often.

I have the BA Amex and it’s free, I use it to collect BA points and just had a companion voucher! So worth it

I travel every three months for about two weeks and love my Amex. It makes flying so much easier to be able to bring my kid to the airport lounge, get upgrades at hotels, and for traveling with childcare to have an extra set of hands.

@Samantha I have an Amex and have used it in the UK and Europe without issue.

I guy I used to work with used to brag he had an amex and tell us what he was buying with the card .. Tiffany engagement ring, car parts etc , we all thought he was an idiot and told him as it was something like 34.9% APR

I always think “weird choice” because they charge so much to use them that many businesses won’t accept them

@Leila interesting! When I was in Europe (granted 8 years ago) nobody accepted them, I also wasn’t in any tourist areas that Americans are usually in on a regular basis.

@Samantha yeah it’s everywhere now, even my little pop up coffee hut in the park takes Amex ☺️

Why is Amex so special? I always get asked in my shop if we accept it
