Potty training readiness?

How do you know when your LO is ready to potty train? My son has recently started crying whenever he does a poo in his nappy and runs to his changing mat. He will also say when he’s doing or done a poo (not before). Is there extra things I should look for him doing as a sign of readiness? He still has heavy wet nappies when he wakes in the morning so may need to wait until he has better bladder strength and they’re less wet 🤷🏻‍♀️. Any recommended resources or experience would be appreciated xx

I think one of the signs is them telling you when they’re going to the toilet. I’m reading the book “Oh crap potty training” finding it very helpful it’s split into blocks. The very last one is removing nappies for naps/nighttime.

As a teacher and someone who use to work in a nursery, the child should be able to communicate in some way even by sign to say they need the toilet so if they are starting to say what they’re doing in their nappy, trying to take their nappy off ect

@Naomi & @Sally , thank you both! That’s super helpful 😊. I’ll take a look at the book mentioned too

Night time dryness is purely hormonal and not an indication of readiness. You can’t train overnight dryness and lots of LO’s are dry in the day long before night time. I’d say being able to tell you he’s poo’d is a great starting point! We’ve started introducing the potty in a low pressure way to ‘make friends’ with it if you will x
