you need a midwife, most midwives aren’t at GP’s, mine isn’t, is there a self referral thing for your area that you can do for a midwife? i had to do a midwife self referral for sussex when i found out i was pregnant and you should be having midwife appointments xx

@Sinead yeah I’ve done the self referral thing and I had one appointment and haven’t seen/heard of her since and haven’t been able to call, maybe might have to see if I can catch up on it xx

@Sophie yes definitely catch up on it, some midwives are absolutely useless but you need those appointments they listen to heartbeat etc, hopefully you get somewhere xxx

I’d try and get registered with a GP ASAP. there’s things such as repeat prescriptions, treatment for urine infections, UTIs etc that the hospital team would usually request from your GP. As you are pregnant you would normally be a priority for patient registration and once you’ve put your forms in usually you’ll be on the system within a week

I have a family nurse, and you still need to have a midwife. A family nurse is someone who takes over a health visitor. You have them until your baby turns 2 they keep check of your baby's growth and development. If you have a family nurse you don't have a health visitor. But you need to have a midwife xx

Definitely catch up with them @Sophie, as @Sinead mentioned, those midwife appointments are important for early intervention if it's needed. They'll be checking all sorts of things like your blood pressure, bloods for vitamins/minerals, proteins, etc. in urine, fundal height to check their growth, and of course, your baby's heartbeat all of which are important!

You will definitely still need a midwife, if you ring your areas community midwives and tell them you don’t have a GP but give them one you plan to register with they will fit you in and also help you register there if needed☺️x

I don’t think midwife is in anyway connected to a gp, I don’t have a gp, but I still had all my midwife appointment through the self referral with nhs

I had my vaccinations through my GP.

We are going to a hospital which isn’t the allocated one from our GP so we have a midwife at the hospital rather than GP, you should still be allocated someone there for your appointments.

The midwife is not connected to your GP. You need to fill in a self referral to your local midwife service.

I didn’t have a gp when I fell pregnant with my first son they’re more likely to let you register if you’re pregnant I would highly recommend registering with go bc you will need to register baby with a go for all of the vaccines and appointments it’s better to have one there just in case
