Can you please help?

Hello! I am about to start my journey of recruiting women for COCE as a midwifery student. I was just wondering if anyone could give me some tips of what you would really like from your midwifery student. How I can best support you? What good experiences and not so good experiences have you had? I’m a mum of 2 but unfortunately didn’t have any midwives in my team. I’m so excited for this part of my degree, but I want to ensure that I can align with everyone’s expectations ☺️✨

My midwife at RWH was amazing. She explained things to me in detail giving full understanding but also the empowerment to make my own decisions. Being a fellow health professional she knew I would want to know the why as well as the what and made sure I was always fully informed. Including of the consequences of certain decisions. Eg induction

Thank you so much for your reply Zoe 🫶🏻

I had a student midwife with me as well as a male midwife (who was quite a new graduate himself) for my 3rd birth (elective induction) and honestly it was the best experience I could have asked for. I actually laughed most of my waters out 🤣 They were both super friendly, made sure I was informed at all points, listened to me, they gave me advice and helped me get my baby into an optimal position, offered me things to help progress labour (peanut ball, exercise ball, expressing). They really guided labour in terms of when to push/little pushes etc. They knew the things I didn’t want, they didn’t offer or even mention those things. They made me feel comfortable, respected my privacy, always asked for consent. They always asked if they needed to touch/handle baby. My male midwife actually thanked me and gave me a hug. The student came and seen me on the ward the next morning. I understand that this is their job but felt they went above and beyond for me and my little.

@Sharnee aww thank you, this made me smile. I’m so glad you had a great experience
