Gastro

Hi moms My 10 months old got gastro. He used to be a very healthy boy and he liked to eat specially solid. But now, he lost his appetite not even keen to have milk. Anyone has any experience? Hints?

He’s lost his appetite while sick with gastro? Thats normal. We had gastro go through our house about a month ago. All 3 of us lost our appetite. Just try to keep up his fluids as best you can. He’ll likely sleep a bit more than usual too.

How long ago did he have it? If he still has it that is normal or he may still be recovering. I am not medically trained but I was always told that because it affects the lining of the stomach it can cause sensitivities to food. This is usually temporary. I would never give my kids dairy for about a week afterwards as it could cause lactose intolerance. If you are concerned talk to your GP. Maybe try cooked vegetable sticks, plain pasta, corn thins with spread or rice cooked with stock instead of water.

We had it not too long ago (my daughter is 18mo now). Nothing much you can do except try and keep his fluids up, hydrolyte is great too. They won't eat very much, but keep offering plain foods and drink. It's a problem if they're not taking any fluids though. So if he shows any signs of dehydration, take him straight to a GP or A&E It took a couple of days for my girls appetite to come back and for her to start feeling normal again

Thanks all

When my 10 month old got gastro the Gp said they can go up to 14 days with reduced milk/ solids as long as they are staying hydrated. I ended up breaking our 4 bottles into 8 while he was sick and just went with the flow. I wasted lots of formula 😅

@Courtney sameeee but doesn’t matter as long as he gets well 🥲

@Courtney how long did it take?

@Chris has she lost weight too?

@sara I didn't weigh her, but she looked the same (without the big bloated toddler tummy), so I wasn't too concerned. She got weighed at a check a couple weeks after and she had put on weight, so if she did lose some she recovered really well. She essentially lived off of boob (I lost a couple of kgs lol), water and rice rusks for three days. After that I slowly added more and more flavoured foods as she got better and everything was back to normal a week later
