Potty training #2

I have a 5 year old as of next month who is refusing to poop in the potty. He is GREAT peeing, only needs a pull up to poop. Nothing is helping. Dr is recommending miralax to forcefully get it out and put him on the toilet. Anyone else go through this? So worried .

SAME HERE my 5 year old will not poop in the potty at all. im trying everything nothings working. 😭

I too am in the exact same position with my almost 5 yr old and i have a dr appointment for her on the 14th and I think it would help him cause this is what I think I'm going to have to do for my kiddo, they say constipation can happen to them cause they refuse to poop on the toilet so they hold it till they are in a pull up of some kind.

Same here, I have a 3 year old who will be 4 and hates pooping in general. I don’t use miralax though. I use BeginHealth it’s the best and doesn’t have negative side effect like miralax does.

@Beverly which one do you use?

Glad we aren’t the only ones! We did start a tactic where instead of a diaper, we are using “special” underwear for her to poop in and she hates it and has started to try the potty to poop. Prayers this works.

I literally went incognito so scared to put this out there and i can’t believe so many of you relate 😩 thank you ladies !!! ❤️

Mine withheld for a really long time. It can be so frustrating! Personally I would try more natural “laxatives” so digestion doesn’t get messed up. All miralax is going to do is give him diarrhea and it doesn’t mean it’ll make it in the potty. Stay encouraging and patient. Make sure he’s hydrated and has plenty of fiber and is active throughout the day so he has regular bowel movements. Stop offering the pull ups, he might go in his underwear, which is a big pain, but definitely more uncomfortable than in a pull up. We also had ours clean herself up (within reason) and she eventually started going in the potty. My nephew still(at 7) will not poop in public so maybe something like that is a factor? Good luck! 😊

I have been exactly where you are, and it’s stressful, but please know it will pass! Just be patient with your kiddo and remind him that he can do it. My son held his poop in for so long when we were potty training and it got so bad that I had to use PediaLax (a suppository) to get everything out so he would feel better. He would literally fall asleep on the toilet waiting to get it out because he was so exhausted from holding it in. We then started him on Miralax and with lots of encouragement and consistency sitting him on the potty, he eventually became comfortable with it. He was absolutely holding onto control by not pooping on the potty and holding it in, but with the Miralax he had no choice but to go. There were tears and it was hard, but I can assure you it will pass. I would be happy to talk more if you need to! Talking to his pediatrician’s office also helped me. ❤️

Had a similar issue with my nearly 5 year old (in a week) until one day I just put him on the big potty with a potty insert when he said he didn’t want to poop in his underwear 🩲 & when he started pooping, you could see the immediate relief & proudness on his face. Does he ever poop in his underwear?

Yall will not know the weight that was released from my heart to know I'm not alone in this situation

Wait I’m not the only one going thru this?! My almost 5 year old too. It gives me so much anxiety since she is supposed to start kindergarten soon. I’ve tried it ALL!

@Summer my son starts kindergarten in September & I only got him fully daytime trained in the last month & a half.

My son will be 5 in July but he would refuse to go poop as well, but I had to start bribing him with the stuff he liked so he started to go poop on the potty and it worked.

Same here!!

Mine is afraid of toilets. Some flush too loud, and more recently one of ours flooded, which traumatized her. I have reintroduced treats for going potty and give her praise when she poops like it's a big accomplishment and so far it's been helping

I don’t know, momma but i’m not a Miralax fan. My daughter has been on it since she was 2, she is almost 4. and their body becomes so accustomed to having it that trying to take it away is just as hard as what you’re going through now. I would try some natural options first. like a probiotic/prebiotic with fiber if they drink a lot of water (otherwise they may get even more backed up). my daughter drinks prune juice daily. or pitted prunes. they help.

You have to do what’s best for you guys, but I would strongly recommend other paths than miralax unless it’s for a real severe medical issue. Their bodies know what to do and we just have to help them find it. LAX products can really mess up their digestive systems, if he’s having trouble with having hard poops, make sure he’s hydrated enough, you’re giving enough protein, fiber, and fat and not very many carbs or processed foods if at all possible. I dose my stopped up kiddo with a little warm milk and a half tablespoon of coconut oil at bedtime since she’s a morning pooper.
