ignore the tub! i used to think i had to follow the tub when my boy was newborn but he started drinking so much and i was so scared of over feeding, but my health visitor assured me that it was fine, babies mostly eat when they’re hungry and if he is taking however many ounces at whichever interval, then that is fine and shouldn’t cause him issues. do you feed on demand? cause i fed on demand too, that’s how i knew my babe was hungry and he would just eat more than the average baby lol xxx
@Lauren ok maybe I exaggerated with the 10 times haha. He doesn’t take 4oz everytime it varies between 3-5. Most of the time 4. Sometimes in the night only 2oz before falling back to sleep. Yeah he got weighed the other day and was following his 25th percentile whatever that means? But they didn’t say he’s over weight or too big or anything. Yeah he spits up but he has reflux and has been put on a special milk by the GP
Ignore what it says, midwife told me baby needs 8-12 feeds over a 24hr period, he will bring the milk back up if it's too much for him x
Also my 3 week old is drinking 4oz every 2-3hrs so I wouldn't say it sounds like you're overfeeding at all! X
@Sinead yeah I feed when he shows me hunger cues which is basically every few hours 😂 he goes from 7pm-10pm most nights but that’s the longest without a feed. He’s still wanting a bottle every 2 hours mostly but like I said it does vary how much he takes. It could be 2oz or 4 very rarely 5. My dad gives him a dummy and tried other things before feeding him as he thinks I’m over feeding but surely if he wasn’t hungry he wouldn’t take it? He literally roots for the bottle and cries until it’s in his mouth 😂😂xx
@Kas 100% some of these boys are just gannets 🤣🤣🤣 if he wasn’t hungry, he wouldn’t take it, if it is slightly too much then he will spit it up but that’s what most babies do anyway! i think the tub is just a guide but it isn’t something serious to follow, every baby is different and some will eat more than others, we just got hungry boys 🤣xxx
i thought i was over feeding my boy at the beginning but my healthy visitor said to follow his lead, he’ll let you know if he wants more or is full up. So after that i ignored the tub xxx
I’d ignore the tub. 5 feeds doesn’t sound like a lot at all at that age! x
I was told not to worry about the volume (unless you think it’s not enough). Babies generally don’t overfeed themselves and it would be cruel to starve them. I used to get my stomach in knots because some twits on here made me feel bad because my boy was taking significantly more than 32oz a day. My boy was just a big boy (10lb 10oz at birth) and as such had a higher energy requirement compared to kids his age. I followed hunger cues and my boy has grown in line with his growth curve. This 32oz nonsense has come from some American paper and the NHS has a different prospective. I whole heartedly agree with the NHS - responsive feeding.
i used to feel like this!! don’t panic. little man is clearly hungry for it! it will settle at some point too x
Thank you all for the reassurance. I can stop worrying now😂 I think he’s just a hungry baby haha! Apparently boys feed more anyway I’m not sure how true that is xx
My baby was also eating 3ish oz at 2months! Definitely forget the tub and follow your baby’s cues. My baby is almost 4 months and has 6-7 bottles in 24 hrs. 4.5oz most and 1-2 bottles is 5oz (the ones when he wakes up in the middle of the night and his first one in the morning)that’s like 27-28 oz in. 24hrs. My baby is pretty chunky and likely over the recommended weight but he needs at least 4oz every 3hrs. If your baby isn’t spitting up and is happy/comfortable after feeding, its fine imo! I would definitely try to stick with a certain amount of milk and see how it goes. Example, try only offering 3 or 4oz each time and see how he reacts. If he’s asking for more, then give him a bit more. If he’s leaving some then decrease the amount. My doctor recommended increasing .5oz at a time, and that’s been working good!
He will tell you how much he needs. If he wants more, give him more. His little body could be going through a growth spurt or maybe he just wants more than the average. This advice came straight from a child health nurse
At 8 weeks my baby was taking 36oz in 24 hours and I was worried about over feeding but my HV said "if he's not being sick, he's not being over fed"
Soo he's taking up to 40oz in a 24hr period? That does seem quite extreme ... It's recommended between 24oz and 32oz in a 24hr period I mean he could be cluster feeding. Does he spit up? Is he gaining weight as he should be?
