UC pay 85% of my childcare costs - does that only apply when working? (South Wales)

So basically I work 2 days a week and UC pay 85% of my childcare back to me the following month. My little boy is 16 months old now. I’m still only able to work 2 days a week as I’ve got nobody to have my boy for me (dads not involved) and all my family work full time. He’s with me 24/7 unless I’m in work. But I just want a day or even half a day to myself to do what I want to do. I’ve been wanting to start the gym back up but I’ve literally got no time too. To cut this short, will UC pay for him to have that extra day/half a day if I’m not in work? Or does it only apply when I’m in work? Im even happy enough to pay for half a day myself as it’s only £30 a week but I just need some ME time. But then I don’t know if UC will allow me to do that as they help the other 2 days and I’d be paying the other half a day myself. Someone please help as I’ve rang UC and they are useless!! TIA 🙏🏻

They pay 85% of cost as long as it a registered place / childminder doesn’t have to be childcare for work it in generally but if you used a unregistered you wouldn’t get it back x

Don’t thin it matters if you’re working that day or not just as long as you work you get it x

@Stephanie he’s in a nursery. I don’t get what you mean sorry? X

@Courtney I thought that too, as long as you’re working it doesn’t matter. But I’m not 100% sure x

Just be careful with it for some reason last month I got £300 towards nursery fees but this month only got £66

I work 16 hours a week (2 days) and my daughter is in full time nursery 8-5. They will pay 85% regardless. But they will end up deducting from your uc depending on how much you earn x
