Car crash

I was involved in a nasty car crash yesterday with my 3 year old. How do you get over the fear of getting back in the car again? Do I give it time or just get straight back in? The thought of driving makes me feel physically sick šŸ¤¢

I hope you are both doing ok? You just need to get back to driving as soon as possible as the more you put it off the harder it will become and you donā€™t want your 3 year old to pick up on the anxiety and fear x

Iā€™ve been in a similar situation too (alone though). You need to get back is the car ASAP! Agree with Emma. x

Trust me girl if you don't do it straight away the fear will take control. even if you go by yourself for a couple of minutes around the area your confidence will grow again.

Agree with everyone you have to get straight back into it. Hope your both okay x

Thank you all, weā€™re ok. Same canā€™t be said for the car unfortunately as thatā€™s now a write off! Thankfully it wasnā€™t my sonā€™s side of the car, it was mine! The airbags have given me mild concussion and a bit of whiplash so my whole body hurts today but so grateful weā€™re all ok! Going to try going out in my husbands car later but I sat in it last night and felt physically sickšŸ™ƒ

Hope you are ok, very scary for all. I would get your confidence back in the car while your son is not in there with you. You then only need to concentrate on yourself and can introduce him back in once you are in good place mentally

Get back in the car because if you donā€™t, itā€™s going to build in your head and then youā€™re screwed, this happened to me.

Check car seat is alright before you use it again! Sounds like it wonā€™t be but maybe just find someone knowledgeable about it to double check

@Kendel Iā€™m quite relaxed about bumps and replacing car seats but I think if the car was a write off and the airbags went off best to claim on insurance and replace it as thatā€™s quite an impact

So I got hit sitting at a red light by a drunk driver going 70 when I was very pregnant with my now 1 yr old. If I'd been stopped 10 INCHES further from the light I'd probably be dead. I didn't stop driving and my anxiety wasn't too bad. I mean, I was stopped at a red light. If I can be totaled doing nothing, what's the harm in just driving anyway?

@Francesca I have edited my comment because I was supposed to write ā€œwonā€™t beā€ but finger slipped and pressed ā€˜sā€™ instead and didnā€™t check myself! I agree. I personally would be replacing car seat.

You might consider going to therapy. My brother was in a bad accident last September that came very close to killing him, and he's been in therapy since. It's really helped.

Both car seats will be replaced(luckily my 13 month old wasnā€™t in the car as it hit his door!) it was quite an impact! I did it- I got in the car and drove!! I feel ok, still very nervous but it actually hurts me to drive so that might not be helping. Hoping once Iā€™ve recovered Iā€™ll start feeling more confident x thank you everyone! X
