The Oh Crap method starts with having them naked and putting them on as they wee, it's supposed to get them used to the idea that the potty is for wee wee faster, as opposed to sitting them on it regularly and hoping. Might be worth a look!
Interesting! We started the day with her in leggings but after all the accidents there were no clean ones left so we had her naked and it worked much better! She started 2 wees slowly and said WEE so I put her on and she did huge ones both times so whether that was being naked or starting and finishing on the potty I’m not sure but it worked a lot better than the first half in leggings. We had one poo that I caught her straining so put her on and she finished on potty and then another poo where she was running to the potty but had an accident. I’m pretty impressed tbh 😇 But wasn’t expecting my anxiety to be so bad! Being on high alert all day and not going out has stressed me out 😅
That sounds really good tbh! They do say that it takes a few days at home without going out. The next stage is to go commando (loose trousers or a dress with no knickers) and see how that goes. Putting tight fitting bottoms on gives them the security of a nappy and they will likely have accidents until they recognise the "need to wee" feeling and can hold it. I got an old version of the book secondhand from the internet relatively cheap :)
I’m curious, as we haven’t started yet, does she watch you go to the toilet? Does it point at it and her bum and know that there’s something going on?
@Becky I’ll have a look for the book now, thank you!
@Marina she does! She’s never been one to let me go to the toilet alone so we got a potty a few months ago and when I go she’d sit on hers with her clothes and nappy just to get used to it. Then I’d say around 6 weeks ago she started to say poo as soon as she’d done one so I’d show her it in her nappy to avoid it scaring her (a tip from our HV) and also started showing her her wee nappies too. Then she started to wee on the floor in the bathroom as soon as her clothes came off so we’d put her on the potty for her to wee there and then huge celebrations when she did it in the hope she understood it. No idea if any of that has helped but it’s what we’ve done to ease her in to it rather than bring it all to her one day in one go x
How is she at getting her trousers and underwear down by herself? Could she need a bit more practice to then confidently go as soon as the urge hits?
@Marina My son watches me wee yes, he can tell you that Mummy wees on the toilet, Mummy wears pants, Mummy doesn't have a nappy and that Reuben wees in his nappy (he is now trained though).
@Sophie she only pulls at them if she’s got them to show me her tummy 🤣 definitely can’t get them off herself. I’m really hoping by the weekend we can be in knickers and trousers so we can work on getting to to take them off 🤞🏻
@Sophie We worked on clothes for a few weeks before potty training. We use the phrases "push trousers down" and "pull trousers up". Up is definitely more tricky so I still help with this.
Ooo will pinch that one! She’s good with her push and pulls x
My sons nowhere near ready so I’d say well done😂
