Stair gates

My LB is now a terror with climbing the stairs so it’s time to get a stairgate. My issue is my bannister starts on step two which I think is still a bit too high up the stairs for the gate to be put on as it’s a fair distance to fall still. Essentially it’s like an offset step and I was wondering if anyone knew of any stairgate that comes out and then goes at a right angle to then fit like a normal stairgate? I have found some but it seems impossible to find one which isn’t an XL size gate and too big!
