have you tried warm prune juice, tummy and foot massages?

Our Pediatrician always recommends trying an enema prior to giving any laxative

@Madelyn for sure, i've heard pedis say miralax is fine but it's not FDA approved for children and there's some stuff out there to read about how and why it's not good for children or babies. i noticed a behavior change in a preschooler i worked with once his parents put him on it regularly which is what made me look into it. the behavior change was severe, he was threatening extreme violent behavior when he was normally a very sweet child. i try to let as many mommas know this as possible because pedis say it's safe so not many ppl look into it

@Hannah he’s not eating so I’ve struggled giving prune

@Hannah what do u mean

Nux vomica homeopathic remedy. “Wants to poo but can’t”

miralax is linked to neuro behavior issues in children. if you do a Google search you can read from a lot of sources about it. pediatricians say to use it and that it is safe but it is not FDA approved for children under 17 years of age. this is an off label use. i would not try laxatives for these reasons, enema would be better. super hard to do with a toddler but if you don't have an enema, you can try the q tip trick. get some vaseline or aquaphor on it. do gentle circles in the rectum. could produce the bowel movement right when you're in there or a few minutes to an hour or so later. gas is likely to come out. foot and belly rubs are good for digestion. you could also try chamomile or peppermint tea, even just warm water and deep breaths. repeat the foot and tummy rubs every hour. try to do at least 3 mins.

@Hannah argh really I guess I’ll leave the laxative then. Don’t think I’ll do the enema

Give him a enema. If he's too backed up he won't eat

We use chamomile tea and that usually helps

Enemas aren’t really safe either. They can cause long lasting damage physically and mentally. Imagine being forced to have something shoved in your butt and you don’t understand why. Adults are coming forward now stating they needed years of therapy. I’d talk to a doctor about the right solution for your child and even still I’d probably try low doses of laxative short term before an enema on a toddler.

right, there's lots of other natural ways that aren't laxatives or probing. https://drgreenmom.com/chia-as-a-natural-miralax-alternative-for-constipation-in-kids/?utm_source=Klaviyo&utm_medium=email_and_blog&utm_campaign=2025-04-04%20Blog%20Update%20-%20Chia-Miralax%20%28Highly%20Engaged%29&_kx=fJ5FUAJAspiuot3OpJKBwV5LU7b52tZ8YrFSp5eF93s.SVAHv4 this is a good read! weirdly, it was posted yesterday or today lol.

@Hannah thank you lovely. Thanks everyone!

Instead of an enema you can just put a little baby oil on a qtip and put just the tip up the bum and it works almost immediately. It’s a lot safer

Have you tried an epsom salt bath? I also used the ILU tummy massage for my toddler, and it worked wonders. It worked the best if I could do bath, massage, running/play/exercise. I have also added a tsp of coconut oil to a warm drink if the other didn't work. Recently, we cut out dairy, and she hasn't had any constipation since.
