Megabloks work for us! Also simple jigsaws
It's hard at that age but they do start playing by themselves so hang in there. My break was usually naps time and when he went to bed. I know your catching up with stuff but if u need a break have one! Mine loves music and dancing so he's always had his own Spotify playlist of all sorts. We had an activity table he liked. Had buttons and sounds. I got some soft books cos he loved books. They made a crisp packet sound. At that age their attention is very short. I think the longest they can hold on to stuff is 20 mins. Plan ahead best u can and think about rotating every 15-20 mins.
My LO loves stacking cups, shape sorters, dancing to her Tonies box, banging on biscuit tins, shaking rattles/tambourines. I rotate the toys every few days so she doesn't get too bored (although the cups are her favourite for some reason lol she'll play with them most days)
A trick I was told was to rotate your toys. Take some away for a week or two then reintroduce them and it’s like new. Toys that make a noise are great and anything sensory. With things around the house give them some water to splash their hands in, get out some plastic bowls and spoons, something he can push like a walker.
Toy, toys, toys. My baby likes to bang lately so she has some musical instrument toys to play with. She also has a toy phone that plays music and introduces numbers
I think it's OK to let them be bored and figure it out at times. I made the mistake of hovering too much and giving too much play time that my daughter is behind on independent play and demands constant interaction and attention. I'm definitely going to do less play with my 2nd.
Sensory bins are a lifesaver! Water/sans table. Blocks. Legos.!
