Leicester General - Complaints

I’ve had an awful 24 hours at the general, really poor communication, unnecessary delays and poor care (not carried out tests they advised they would etc) and to top it off they’ve gone and lost my maternity notes so I can’t yet be discharged, the fact that they have lost them is a huge concern in itself. Does anyone have experience of raising a complaint against the General and can share any helpful advice? Thanks

I’ve just raised a complaint myself regarding the general. The care was poor. You go through PILS or PALS

Pals@uhl-tr.nhs.uk

I’m currently on the ward at general and experiencing a terrible experience

@Tejal Solanki I’m so sorry to hear. Have you raised anything? I’m going in to meet with the ward manager tomorrow, can’t believe how bad the care was not only for me but others around me

@Beth I’m so sorry to hear. Thank you for sharing the link!

@Beth I raised a complaint for lack of communication during my labour and delivery. They somehow ‘forgot’ to tell me that my baby had the cord around her neck twice which was the reason for me not displaying well, for her increase heart rate, for baby being distressed. So I raised a complaint and I got a lousy ‘I’m sorry’ via email 🙄

Had my 20weeks scan there I asked if everything was okay and she told me to sit outside and wait for my paperwork - awful experience- I changed my hospital to the LRI after that x

@Zarah my baby was born premature so was in the nicu, I was asking for hours for help to get up and go and see her as I had a c section. I was left in bed for 18 hours without seeing my baby. I would be ringing for pain relief and again taking up to 1-2 hours to answer the call bell, the pain got so bad i nearly collapsed with my blood pressure dropping. My actual c section was amazing, it was the after care. I genuinely think it’s more short staffing, as it mainly seemed to be nurses rather than actual midwife’s on the ward which is bizarre

@Beth that is absolutely ridiculous. I hope you and your baby are doing ok now? It’s so sad that they let it get to that

@Zarah we are both amazing now. It’s just really sad that the care isn’t there.

I think the aftercare is awful at the general recently! I had a C section in December and I was left all day with out pain killers even though I rang the bell and then got told off for not keeping on top of them!

@Emily I was the same, in the end I asked my husband to bring my own pain relief in and was self medicating

@Beth it’s awful. I know they are understaffed but it’s no reason for negligence. My whole experience was awful from the moment I stepped in the door when I was in labour until they discharged me. I picked there as well because I heard horror stories at the LRI and now I have regrets x

We raised a PALS complaint in 2023 and it was brushed off. I’d still do it though. All the complaints build a bigger picture!! Xx

@Zarah the exact same happened to me!!

@Felicity I’m so sorry you had to go through that too. It isn’t fun at all. I’m fully put off from more kids now

@Zarah oh bless you - it has us too. We are blessed with two beautiful boys though. Maybe one day, but certainly not anytime soon. My husband won’t even talk about the second birth. ☹️
