Pushing/ Hitting

I had to sign an incident report yesterday when I picked my son up from school. He hit a classmate in the face with a toy and busted her lip. I’ve been getting reports for months now that he pushes the students who are smaller than him for toys from time to time. My son is a 16 month old only child. I am not sure that he is hitting out of anger but rather not knowing appropriate ways to touch/ give/ share. How can I address this at home at this age?

Have you looked up YouTube videos? I know you can search for this specifically.

@Kate i’d appreciate any recommendations that you have!

I really like Emma Hubbard’s videos, but really you can just search “toddler stop hitting” and a ton of stuff comes up. I find it’s better to watch different videos when I’m looking up specific parenting advice.

Could he be around someone aggressive? Maybe telling them to chill around your kid. Also so far everytime my kid has hit (which luckily isn’t too much) i always suggest “do you want a hug instead? we don’t hit.”
