I'm in the UK but here, they don't usually talk about induction until nearing 42 weeks. I had an appointment at 41 weeks and had a further appointment booked in at 41+5 to discuss an induction, but she came at 41+1. I wouldn't opt to induce at 40 weeks myself.
Whilst 40 weeks is very normal to be induced it is your body and your pregnancy. Make sure you are fully informed on the pros and cons and make your own decision. I said no to an induction and went into spontaneous labour at 40+3
@Mikaela my midwife started asking me about my thoughts on induction at 38 weeks, ready for when I went to 40. I think it depends on each trust
I would really go off of how baby is doing on the inside. I mean my first was 9lbs and 10 oz at 40weeks and I’m getting my second c section at 38 weeks this time around( currently 36w+ 4d and baby is measuring 7lbs 4oz) but a lot of drs say most babies come when they’re ready but listen to your body I was miserable the last few weeks I couldn’t sleep and walking around hurt too much even
42 is perfectly fine. You baby will come when their lungs are ready and initiate labor.
Is medical weeks the 1st day of last period and conception when you did the deed???? Sorry if this is a stupid question 😂
@Melissa yes lol
Yeah, idk I'd tell him to kindly fuck off and transfer your records to a doctor that would respect your preferences, but that's just me 🤷♀️
Also, sounds like you might need a birth doula - medicaid covers them! They'll help you advocate for yourself and make sure you're comfortable as possible during your labor. You're 36% less likely to have a c-section with a doula! So just something to think about since your doctor sounds like an absolute moron. 🫶🏻
@Jessica unfortunately we don't have any where I live and aren't paid for by insurance 😭 I have been doing research and nothing
@Kamryn🇲🇽 you may find them if you search in local mom fb groups. Can hire a newer doula for a lower cost just make sure you connect well on how the birth space should be.
You live in Duluth, MN? There's a Doulas of Duluth business there! I feel like all insurance companies should cover them, not just medicaid 😕 kinda crazy because they are so beneficial to the birth experience!
@Jessica I don't live in Duluth I live a hour away but I wonder if they would be willing to travel
@Kamryn🇲🇽 wouldn't hurt to contact them and ask! 💕

I was induced at 41 almost 42 weeks and gave birth at 41 weeks to both of my naturally induced birthed kids so I think that is the normal time, I think when it’s not medically necessary you should wait til 41/42 weeks for sure
@Heidi I believe being induced can be very painful and baby should come when ready my last came at 38 weeks my water broke and I still had to have Pitocin because I couldn't go from a 2 for hours
@Kamryn🇲🇽 I think the same thing unless ofc baby is losing oxygen or something deadly, i didn’t want to be induced but i was also super ready having to take care of 2 toddlers then, i dont get why some drs want to induce at 40 weeks im pretty sure its just cus they get to bill more for pitocin, etc for how long youre there tbh
Thanks ladies! I have Anthem insurance and I read doulas are covered. I just have to call them and set it up. I’m def going to have a doula by my side! 💞
@Heidi I think women should have the right to choose. I mean, we're the ones making the human and pushing it out or getting a cesarean. I see so many doctors that do a sweep without permission and then the woman gets super bad contractions. Nothing should go done without a woman's full consent along with her birth plan if she has one
I was induced at 40 weeks for my first and everything went well but I decided with my next two to let them come on their own. Both went to almost 42 weeks. If I had another I would wait again. Babies come when they're ready and shouldn't be rushed unless for medical reasons. Don't let your doctor push you into doing something you don't want to do. You will always know what's best for your baby.
