I remember being absolutely gutted and kicking myself when they told me I had GDM.. but it happens and doesn't mean it has to effect you long term or the baby! Also Ask to be referred to a dietician..it's very helpful to know what to limit yourself on, and more about what raises your blood sugar in the first place. For example if you were having jacket potato for lunch - only have one and not two. Protein is fine but carbohydrates will raise your blood sugars. Go for a walk immediately after eating especially when you think your sugar test might be slightly high. You will have to test exactly one hour after meals and once when you wake up. There's a lot too it .. the more you educate yourself the more confidence you'll have and that helps with feeling less anxious. It's happened now, the best thing you can do is ensure you are active and controlling your levels. Message if you need any support 💜
Also side note I just realised FTM meant first time mums and not full time mum 😅
The one thing that I wish they had told me from the start: if you don’t eat for a long period of time, your body releases glucose into your bloodstream and your blood sugar spikes Also GD UK is a great website and there’s a facebook group too
Never have had it but know its not your fault! Gestational diabetes is actually caused by the health of the sperm which leads to the production of the placenta. The placenta is what is producing the hormones and signals that trigger Gestational diabetes. So no worries! Just watch your carb and sugar intake and try and get some light walking in!
