If it’s any consolation my sister is super healthy, exercise, eats super clean and is due this month. She just found out she has it. I wouldn’t beat yourself up at all! Just ask your OB what they suggest and go from there. You got this!
It’s not your fault, the pregnancy can make your body insulin resistant. Ensure you eat high protein and low carb diet. Fats and protein tend to keep glucose spikes in check. And take complex carbs. I get veggies might not be the easiest- but when you feel hungry in between meals have a whole cucumber(that’s what I do) and have string cheese. I am a diabetic pre pregnancy and I have to constantly monitor what I eat and how much I eat. But the safest way to avoid glucose spikes are more protein, substituting carbs with whole grain breads instead white bread. And reduce the portion size. And in fruits avoid high fructose ones like grapes and mangoes.
Just want to add in, if you "failed" the one hour, it's very possible that you pass the 3 hour one after. That happened to be with my first. My friend had full blown gb and she and the baby did just fine. The baby is healthy and normal so don't beat yourself up about it!
If you wanna blame someone blame your partner! Sperm is a huge makeup of your placenta. Your placenta releases a hormone (I think it’s LPH?) and that is what causes insulin resistance. I just took my 1hr today and I’ll get results tomorrow but I had GD with my first and it’s manageable with diet and exercise most of the time❤️
Katherine’s totally right, this is your placenta’s doing and not yours! Both of my sisters-in-law (absolute health freaks) had GD with all eight of their total pregnancies—it’s not a reflection on your prior eating habits if you have it 💕and you may not because tons of people fail the one-hour and pass the three-hour.
I eat plenty of fruits and veggies, and still my number was borderline, so I am going for 3h test tomorrow… don’t blame yourself, a lot of it is genetics!
