I just started my search. I had to google doulas in my area. Some area hospitals have them as an option as well.
@Lauren do you know how ?? I guess I would have to contact the main line and ask questions ??
@Felicia I’m from Virginia. When I went to my local WIC office they offered a program called Baby Care and said that a doula is offered through that. I would call or fill out the applications online to check if you’re eligible!
Do yall think it’s necessary to look into this early on ? Or would I need to look for some other type of coach ?? I guess I’m looking for support and someone to reach out to during the pregnancy itself if that makes sense??
I recently found my doula and they’ve been a great emotional support so far! Helping me with resources for classes to connect with other expecting families, even just checking in with me how I’m processing or feeling, and overall compassionate. It feels nice for me to know there will be additional support before and during birth. I highly recommend!
I had a doula my second birth and I wish I had had one my first birth. I was pressured into all sorts of things like induction, pitocin, epidural early on...the list goes on. But I ended up in a horrrrrrible csection and a uterine infection. My doula the second time around was amazing and she talked through all my options and she knew my birth plan. When youre in labor you get to a point where it is really really difficult to advocate for yourself because you get focused on getting through each contraction. They are an amazing resource that I highly recommend if you can afford them or get them paid for. Check out behervillage.com as well.
Hi I’m a certified doula! You can go on doulamatch.net Lots of doulas will allow you to meet with them before you book so you can make sure they are the right person for your birthing space. If you have questions I’d be happy to help!
I’m also looking for one. I was told that if you qualify for WIC and Medicaid then you might be able to get a doula for free through that.
