They grow so fast as newborns that’s why they drink a lot of milk. Even more than the recommended amount like online says they drink 1-2 oz but every baby is different and has a diff apetite
@Nathalie thank you so much!
@Nathalie my little one hasn’t unlatched for a few hours now, and he wants to feed for comfort after nappy change or after an attempt at solo sleep. Is that all normal?
Feed on demand. Newborns are good at self-regulating and will tell you when they are full. The only way to really overfeed a newborn is if you are trying to force them to eat more when they are clearly done (the reason this happens more with bottles is because sometimes parents are inclined to try to get baby to finish the bottle, or eat a certain amount on a schedule). What I always say is that babies aren't gas tanks. They don't fill up and empty on regular intervals. Sometimes they want more, sometimes less. Newborns tend to eat voraciously and you might wonder where it's all going most of the time, but they use it so fast that it may seem sometimes like they are constantly eating. And sometimes they might not be interested at all. You just gotta roll with it. 🤷
hmm, that sounds pretty normal for a newborn, they can be little eating machines, so as long as he's happy and gaining weight, you're probably doing great! Just looked it up on the 'Heal Baby Care App' and here's what it says: "It's completely normal for a 10-day-old newborn to eat between 2 to 3 ounces per feeding, and wanting more shortly after is also common as they grow. Newborns typically feed every 2 to 3 hours, but some may go longer between feeds, especially if they are sleeping well. As long as your baby is gaining weight and seems content after feeding, you're likely doing great. Are you noticing any signs of hunger or fullness in your baby after feeding?
@Susan no signs of hunger after feedings usually after a feeding and a diaper change he goes right back to sleep so he’s very content I’m just a first time mom and still learning
Keep on feeding him on demand. My baby drank every 30 mins-1 hour as a newborn. They’re always hungry. If you’re over feeding he will vomit or you can hear the milk sloshing around or he will act gassy like arching his back and crying.
