Gestational diabetes

I have gestational diabetes, I’ve been on insulin for a few weeks now, my blood sugar has been up and down for the most part. Is it likely I’ll be induced because of this?

I had GD, and they basically pressured me into an induction, just remember it's your choice, listen to the reasons they're saying you need one and decide for yourself if its necessary!!

I have gd but not medicated and got told at my appointment that they tend to induced at 37/38 if you’re medicated for gd x

I had it, I was on metformin and insulin and kept having to increase my insulin doses as I got closer to my due date. I was told they prefer an induction at 39 weeks as they didn’t want me going past my due date due to increased risk of complications. I could have pushed back and said no but I was miserable and fed up with all the medication by that point and I wasn’t against an induction. So I said yes, went in at 39 weeks, and it took a week and she came out on her due date anyway 😂 So you can push back, you can say no, but they will keep informing you of the risks as they have to do.

Probably should've added, I wasn't medicated with my GD

I voted wrong. But I was on insulin with GD and was induced at 40 weeks. I had to adjust my Dosage once. But, my numbers were well controlled with the insulin. I was told that if my numbers were good we would induce at 40 weeks and that’s what happened for me. My induction went well and I had a non complicated vaginal birth.

As long as you're staying in range you won't need an induction. Tricks you can try to keep your numbers in range would be, to pre bolus(give your insulin well before you're actually going to eat) in type 1 diabetic sphere of things we prebolus up to 45minutes before eating because of the insulin resistance. Also going on. Walk immediately after eating can help keep you from spiking as well. If you can, I'd get free style Libre so u don't need to finger poke daily. You just wave the reader on the sensor and get ur readings that way. As the pregnancy progresses you'll likely need more insulin with meals and maybe a basal insulin type as thr hormones responsible for keeping healthy pregnancy also increase fhd insulin resistance

@Charlotte labor for a week?

@Cassie various methods of induction took a week - failed balloon insertion, pessary that fell out after 11hrs and only induced mild cramping. A sweep. And then I was at the point where I could have my waters broken manually and start the drip but baby and I were fine and there were a lot of more emergent cases. So I sat and waiting, did a lot of walking, kept being monitored. Then they sent me home, to call me back in when they had a space for me, which was 2 days later. From starting the drip to birth was only about 14 hours.
