Weaning

Silly question but how are we cleaning babies bowls and spoons? Are we sterilising them or just washing them?

Just need to wash them in hot soapy water unless you’ve used formula to mix with the food. Then they would need sterilising ☺️

If the baby is under 6 months then you’ll need to sterilize them

Advice will be different depending on where you live, but if you're from the US the AAP does not recommend routine sterilization of bottles/nipples unless baby is immunocompromised or has a NICU stay. Also, if baby is old enough to be eating purees they're already putting things in their mouth that are not sterile. The gut is also not sterile, it can handle normal germs.

We did rinsing immediately, then through the dishwasher. With the dry cycle it gets it hotter than it would with handwashing and our kid is doing fine. He's starting to eat off of our plates more often nowadays

I’ve just been washing them in hot water and washing up liquid x

i just wash them with soap and hot water, seems to do the trick for us! Just looked it up on the 'Heal Baby Care App' and here's what it says: "It's not a silly question at all! For babies' bowls and spoons, washing them with warm, soapy water is usually sufficient. You can also place them in the dishwasher if they're dishwasher-safe. Sterilizing is generally recommended for items like bottles and pacifiers, especially for younger infants, but for bowls and spoons, regular cleaning is typically enough. How old is your baby, and are you using any specific materials for their feeding utensils?

I wash them in the dishwasher
