Projectile vomit

Just looking for a bit of advice… My LO is 4 and a half weeks old. He occasionally will projectile vomit after a feed regardless if he’s burped or not. He is really difficult to burp as he will throw himself back, twist his neck and begin to cry! I feel like HV and midwife’s won’t worry unless if it is after every feed, so just wondering if anyone has any tips to stop this from happening or is it possibly a sign of reflux? During/after a feed he will strain, sometimes goes red, cries and has smelly gas? He can go 24 hours without pooing too and usually will only do one dirty nappy a day, but has plenty of wet nappies. He is formula fed on Apitmal milk. Thanks!

It sounds like what my son was like and he was diagnosed with CMPA (had lots of other symptoms). But to begin with he did similar behaviour to this. His poos became explosive though with mucus. It's hard to tell because they're all so different even with the cmpa symptoms. Could be lactose sensitivity too.

The main cause of projectile vomit is pyloric stenosis or gastroenteritis. You may want to get your baby checked out for both. My little boy had sometimes projectiled when he was very young. To be safe we winded up getting him looked at for these things. It doesn't hurt just to make sure your baby is okay and nothing serious. Our pediatrician recommended we do it too. It could be other things as well. Definitely run it by your doctor!
