Doona car seat

Has anyone looked at or got a Donna car seat? I just think a doona would be handy for us as we have some travelling coming up this year and would be easier for little trips rather than taking the full travel system. I will also have a three year old tow too so anything that is convenient is appealing 😂

I think you just have to watch how long they are in the seat as technically still classed as car seat x

They are definitely handy to have but I’m not sure on the safety level of them and the fact babies can’t be in a car seat for long periods. I know the car safety groups slate them 😂😂. You may be better getting a car seat that can fit onto your pram x

@Sadie Yeah definitely will look into the safety testing of them. Interesting that the car safety groups hate them! We still have the car seat from my first child which fixes onto the travel system - I was just thinking more about short times like nursery pick up snd drop off and also travelling - flights, taxis etc x

I absolutely love mine. I am in the US though. This popped up on my for me page lol. But they’re suppose to be perfect size for our planes, and such. Haven’t tested that yet. But I do love being able to just have our car seat and not have to transfer him, just softly pop out the bottom with a button, boom. We’re on the move lol. And the wheels are pretty hearty. Grass, dirt, gravel, doesn’t fight. It’s not the easiest in sand but still gets through it. It does have NO storage, buttt the Amazon accessories fit! I didn’t buy any of the their brand ones. Little pricey while it’s already $600. If you’re taller, or partner is, the handle is a bit low. I’m 5’6” no problems. But I’ve seen taller husbands complain.

I've got one but yet to have baby.

When I was looking into them two years ago with my first, i found the safety scores were quite low on them compared to other seats. So decided against but I can see the appeal with my second on route. They are brilliant for the convenience but I think the reason car seat groups hate them so much is because people just leave the babies in for longer than the 30 mins. X

For baby number 2 I actually bought a second hand yo-yo for this purpose - I’ve taken the fabric seat off for now so it’s just the frame that I leave folded up in the car boot, and I bought the car seat adapters so I just lift the car seat on and off it. She’s only 9 days old so not used it loads yet but it seems to be working well!

@Mollie yeah. Thats why I only do 1.5hrs at the very most. Including stroller time (the length of the US NICU car seat test, he passed twice) My first response to you disappeared lol idk why.

@Alexis 🤍 no judgment here. They do look really handy for sure. I’d probably have got one if I didn’t spend so much on the double stroller 🙈🤣 Never feel you have to explain yourself mama xx

If you travel a lot then get a yoyo with the Cybex z2 clipped on Doonas are not really recommend - they are big in the US though. The z2 stretches out flat when on the buggy

@Francesca @Harriet We have a cybex cloud z from our first child. I didn't know it could fit on a yoyo chassis so this could be a really good idea!

We have the doona+ bought in 2023. So basically you have to treat it as a car seat and not a pram. They shouldn’t be in them for long as the positioning can cause asphyxiation. That being said they have a new one out that is more expensive but has a recline position which would mean baby can stay in it for longer. It is heavy though, so we stopped using it when our girl got to 10 months as I couldn’t lift it in and out the car anymore. We’re back to the travel system car seat x

@Sarah yep just get the adaptors! Also you don’t need to take the colour pack off so you can just clip it onto the yoyo over the top and then use it for your toddler

@Sarah we also have the cybex cloud z from our first child! You have to buy car seat adapters for the yoyo but it does fit. And when you have it on the yo-yo you can put it in the lie flat position

@Francesca @Harriet Ah perfect, sounds like it could work well. Thanks both 😊 So I'd need the yoyo chassis, car adapters and the 6m+ pack. Is the newborn base worth it? Just wondering if that's needed really if the car seat reclines back 🤷🏻‍♀️ Is there a time limit for them to be in the cloud z when reclined? I can't remember from my first x

@Sarah you don’t need the colour pack - the car seat can clip onto just the sachet directly - it’s just handy that it can go on top that was all to save switching it over. We didn’t bother with the newborn pack. Shot me but I ignored the time limits - My 3mth old (now 3) would sleep for hours reclined in the z2 it was really convenient

I have a doona, my brother kindly bought me it when I had my 1st baby 4 years ago. Used it for her constantly, then reused it again constantly for my little boy who was born 2 years after her. About to reuse it a 3rd time for baby number 3 who is due any day! The best baby product you will ever buy x

@Sarah I’ve not bothered with the newborn pack. I’m actually not sure about the time limit on the cloud z when reclined. To be honest, if I have a sleeping baby in there I just let them sleep until they wake up (supervised, of course!)
