Prams to plane

If you walk your pram to the plane steps but happy for it to go in the hold, does it have to go into a bag / box or is that only if you officially check it before security etc?

We’ve not put ours into a bag/box and always take to the steps/gate. I would say just put something on it to easily identify your pram after the flight, as both times we’ve been away, others have had the same pram as us.

@Naomi do you know if there’s a cost to do this or if it’s included?

We always walk our pram to the gate and then goes into the hold. Usually there’s no charge for this as it’s part of taking a child on holiday but I’ve only ever flown with Jet2 maybe check online with your airline x

No, it doesn’t have to be boxed or bagged. It can just go in as it is which is what most do. Airlines usually allow this free of charge.

Thank you all! Just panicking I had missed something off the ever growing list of what to get 😅

@Kimmy do you mean taking pram to the gate? When we’ve been away (easyJet and jet2) have both just said if we would like to keep our pram until the gate that it is fine and they just give us an extra luggage tag. No extra cost for this

We got a big drawstring pram bag from Koodi (you get get them on Vinted) - it gave me peace of mind that nothing would get broken/ snagged and meant that I left the cosy toes etc in the pram.

It doesn’t have to but I’d suggest putting into a bag if you don’t want it scratched/ dirty as they tend to get thrown around x

@Naomi thank you, that’s really helpful!

Every time I’ve flown they took the pram at the bottom of the stairs after going through the boarding gate so not actually at the plane. But we just got a bag for the pram off Vinted and lashed it in there x

When we've gate checked out stroller it's either been without a bag or the airline has provided one (NB we travel with a freebie stroller we got so we're not precious about any scuffs or superficial damage)
