My midwife gave me two tips for constipation 30ml of cooled boiled water in a bottle - she said they probably won’t take the whole 30ml And a little bit of Vaseline by their bum, it’ll help it slide out more I would suggest booking in with the gp though so they can check little one is all okay x

Get to the GP. My daughter had the same around 6 weeks and we were prescribed lactulose. Only 2 doses and a couple of poonamis later, we were back to normal within 24 hours

Do you use a prep machine? The HV and midwives keep telling me they can cause constipation and to try just using the kettle. But I’d probably go to the GP x

Honestly my GP is useless have tried to call everyday this week by the time we get through all appointments are gone, don’t use a prep machine and have tried boiled cooled water, about 10 mins ago he did a more normal looking poo so just going to keep an eye on it if it’s still bad over the weekend I’ll take him to a&e, that’s for your advice though xx

@Paige did they say why it causes constipation? Other than some machines not testing to 70 degrees I’m so confused about the nhs not liking the prep machine 😩 it’s such a life saver and I can’t see why it could cause constipation

@Sophie They can also cause colic and reflux. I also believe it’s every prep machine doesn’t hit a high enough temperature to act as a hot shot, I imagine this would cause constipation due to the bacteria not being killed in the formula combined with some babies not being able to tolerate it as well. we’ve got a refluxy baby anyway so we’ve opted not to use our prep machine until he’s older and we just use the hot shot method for now

OP my own Gp is a nightmare so I feel for you however I’m sure because it’s a baby they have to give you an appointment. I called up about reflux and they saw me the same day. Could you try walking to the surgery and asking for an appointment face to face? If not when you call just insist that they give you one asap say it’s an emergency x

@Sophie no she didn’t say. I’m not sure I believe it myself but I suppose if constipation is bad it’s maybe worth giving it a try not using it to see if it helps. I’m not convinced it will but worth trying in case it does x
