Constipation

My little girl was sat on the potty for nearly 3 hours last night trying to go. She was in a lot of pain and eventually gave up then sat there with her stool poking out and falling asleep. We put her in the bath and all was resolved. Any tips on how I can stop things like this from happening in the future? I know she needs more vegetables but she refuses! She eats some fruit. It was heartbreaking to watch 😢

Have you tried getting some movicol/laxido off the doctors?

I feel your pain and wish I could offer some advice! My little one is on laxido Would love to know if anything else would help so he doesn’t need to be on them Mine eats lots of fruit and veg too 🤷🏼‍♀️ The doctor did tell us to move to brown bread, brown pasta etc if she eats lots of that it might be worth a try?

@Steph she used to have laxatives when she was a baby, I’m unsure if they’d still be in date. I might contact them again if I notice it getting worse. She has had more chocolate lately so I feel this could be the root cause!

@Chloe thank you, I will defo try moving to wholemeal bread / pasta and see if it makes a difference. I found the bath did help loosen and then she went perfectly fine, they also say juice helps xxx

Look at the ERIC charity if you’re worried as they specialise in children’s bowel and bladder issues and have good advice on their website. Laxido/movi is meant to be given regularly so may be worth speaking to GP if it continues. Our little one has been one it for the best part of a year and they say constipation is very common up to the age of 5 apparently. I feel for them

Does she drink a lot of water ?

That sounds so tough. My little boy has been struggling with poos, he's been holding them in and then gets so constipated but we've had a breakthrough this week. I made a smoothie which I found on chat gpt but amended it slightly as I didn't have all the ingredients. It was half a banana, I used a suckies yoghurt (or any yoghurt), splash of water, a tablespoon of oats and some strawberries (or any fruit you've got) and then blend all of that together. The first time he had it, he had held his poo in for 3 days. After having it, he did a poo within 45 mins. He went again shortly after having it the next day. Now the constipation has gone and he's suddenly got this confidence to poo! I hope your little one is OK x

@Steph thank you, I’ll give it a research. It’s honestly so heartbreaking to watch x

@Anni oh bless him, it’s so hard when they hold them in 😢 I might start making a smoothie as I seen this online last night. I will give your recipe a go, thank you!

@Ema yes she drinks a lot compared to what she used too
