Newborn has tongue tie

Who do I speak to about it. I have noticed she feeds so different to my first born but I just put it down to her being premature(born at 35 weeks). It takes her so long to latch and she only latches for a short time.

You need to ask your gp for a referral to a tongue tie clinic. Please note most midwives, HVs and GPs are not qualified to diagnose. We ended up going through our private insurance as the TT clinic on NHS said her TT wasn’t extreme so they wouldn’t do it but it was giving her reflux and she was taking in so much air when feeding. This place is great and have a donation based service available where you contribute what you can afford or you can go fully private and pay full price for a quicker appointment. https://www.thetonguetiecentre.org/ *warning* a few of my mates went to ‘private’ providers who come to your home. They had to hold their child’s head and hands down whilst the procedure was done. One didn’t even do it properly!!

There are some really good private practitioners out there who can help. Where in London are you?

If you have an infant feeding team local to you then go via them, they do have the training to spot them and can also make the referral to get them cut. Check if any of your local hospitals have tongue tie clinics. Royal London does x

Get a referral through local breastfeeding team / health visitor/GP to tongue tie clinic in the hospital. Do not trust anyone unless they are a specialist and do a full assessment in the mouth with their gloves on.

Tell your health visitor and gp have you been discharged from midwife ?
