Don’t listen to the recommended amount for weight midwife and health visitor told me you feed them on demand at this age and give them what they want basically xx
We are exactly the same at 7 weeks. We combi feed and she screams at every stop to burp her (we have to lots because of her reflux). She always wants breast as well as the bottle. I just feed on demand (basically 24/7 haha).
Our little boy is the same. He isn't at the weight he should be though so have been advised to breastfeed then do a bottle top up of 2oz when he finishes to start with. He guzzles the bottle though and is unhappy when it's done so I breastfeed again! We didn't keep stopping to burp and wonder if that's why he was unhappy though but wasn't sure if you needed to with only 2oz
@Shauna we’ve had mixed messages from HV and doctors but we do try and feed on demand until he satisfied but I do worry he’s just chugging it 😂 he often spits up about an hour later so unsure if that’s reflux or greed haha! I’m just worried by feeding him so much we are causing other problems like gas and digestion but I think anything to get through the screaming around milk time 😩
@Anna it’s so tough isn’t it. We try to burp mid feed but he’s having none of it, just wants to finish his bottle and more! We’ve tried upping his amount but then he usually leaves a bit and wants more an hour later 🫠
Yep it's so so tough. I guess we've just got to keep on going with trial and error until we crack it! Every baby is so different which makes it hard too 🙈 but you know your baby best so keep going 🙌🏽 x
how much is he drinking? are you pace feeding? sometimes reflux can burn so they like to drink more to soothe that burning or he could be a hungry boy, my first daughter was on 6oz by 3w old, i followed her lead, pace fed her and she was a happy little lady x
@Amy about 5oz every 2-3 hours but then often needs 6oz maybe 2 feeds during the day. He’s been on 5oz for weeks to be fair but he was going nice 4 hour stretches and now he’s hardly making 2. We tried upping it to 6oz each feed but that doesn’t seem to help him. That’s exactly my thoughts with the soothing reflux but everyone looks at me like I’m crazy when I say that! X
it’s definitely possible to be reflux but at the same time they can go through growth spurts where they feed more or less - it varies from baby to baby, you’re doing amazing though lovely, hope it settles soon🫶🏼🩷xx
Mines a very hungry baby too... Although I combi feed. But when I do give him a bottle he guzzles it down so quick, and screams if I dare to try and stop for a burp break 🙈 I always end up having to breastfeed him too, especially before bed so he'll fall asleep!
