Baby's appetite fluctuating

Hi gals! Ftm mum here of a lovely baby girl who will be 12 weeks tomorrow. I've noticed over the last week or 2 her appetite fluctuates massively during the day. She's eating about an ounce less in her bottles and is taking longer to finish them. She also doesn't seem to be finishing her night feeds. I have started soothing her back to sleep instead of offering the bottle first, but I'm worried she's not getting enough calories. Otherwise she is really well, aside from a little bit of a snotty nose she is having trouble shifting. I'm wondering if this indicates its time to drop the night feeds, size of the bottles or something else? For reference she takes 160ml almost every 3 hours during the day, and then 180-190ml before bed. She's now over 12lbs!

Have you tried upping the teat size? Taking longer to finish can sometimes indicate that it’s time, which should in turn help her take in more. If she’s happy being soothed overnight rather than eating you might find it naturally bumps up her daytime intake in time. As long as she’s still got plenty of wet nappies I wouldn’t worry too much! X

My daughter was also not interested in night feeds I dropped them she started to drink more during the day

Yeah, as Jess said, make sure the nipple size on the bottle is correct! The total amount they take in 24 hrs is important. They usually (by this age) act in a way to tell you if they’re hungry or thirty. Happy 12 weeks 🥰 this is the time to enjoy and catch up on some sleep with these longer sleep span!

Check the teat size I’d say you need to move up a size. If that doesn’t help then maybe speak to your health visitor to check her weights etc. if everything is in the normal range then I wouldn’t worry. If she’s got a cold too that might be why she’s a little bit off her milk. If she’s bunged up then it might be harder for her to drink the milk xx

I echo what everyone else says here and try upping the teat size she could just be getting bored of the bottle as it's taking too long to get what she wants x
