bath after c-section

Hi ladies, I am really in need of a bath- I feel gross if I just have a shower, I just want to relax my body. I am 9 days post op, am I safe to have a bath even if it's for a short period of time?

When I had my c-sections I would cover it up the c-section area with plastic wrap and tape to keep it from getting wet. Shower is best instead of a bath due to biodegradable stitches and the glue that they put on you.

Aww I totally understand that feeling! I would ask your doctor about it. I waited 6 weeks until I submerged my c-section incision in water to avoid any complications or infections.

You really need to wait 6-8 weeks after a c section for a bath or pool

Hang in there! I remember that feeling but I’d also wait 6-8 weeks.

They told me I could bath just no soap

I waited 6 weeks but nobody told me to tbh I just assumed lol. Might be worth texting your midwife or HV! Also congratulations 🥰

I would wait you don’t want to run the risk of infection or injury:( I’m sorry but yeah I would wait the recommended 6 weeks

I was told to not submerge my incision for 6 weeks unless I wanted an infection

No definitely don’t until 8 weeks pp/ as late as you can x

I had no idea that we can’t bath after c section I had my first bath at day 3. Yes day 3 and I seem to be doing fine.

I know it’s not the same but it’s really not worth any infection or stitches opening up your area. Before you know it you’ll be taking all the baths you’d like hang in there mamas

I had a bath about a week after because my back was so terrible but I didn’t fill the bath just so I could lay in a couple of inches of hot water without my scar being submerged I had a full bath at 6 weeks

I had a hot bath with no soap in about a week or 2 after. I washed myself with soap but avoided the scar, had no issues. I just needed a bath so bad, showers weren’t doing anything x

They told me I could have one as soon as my dressing was off day 5 but I couldn’t imagine anything worse than climbing in and out of a bath. I was 8 weeks pp before I managed it

Don't do it! I had one 4 weeks pp and it caused major irritation

hmm, I'd say it’s best to check with your doc first, but I totally get wanting to soak and relax! Just looked it up on the 'Heal App' and here’s what it says: "It's understandable to want to relax in a bath, especially after surgery. However, at 9 days post-op, it's crucial to consider your specific procedure and any instructions given by your healthcare provider. Generally, soaking in a bath can increase the risk of infection, especially if you have any incisions that are not fully healed. If your incisions are closed and your doctor hasn't advised against bathing, you might be able to take a short bath, but keep it warm rather than hot, and avoid submerging any surgical sites. Have you received any specific guidelines from your healthcare provider regarding bathing after your surgery?"

You gotta wait.
