Trying for a baby

My husband & I are ready to start trying for baby number 2. But I really don't want a December baby (Christmas & 3 family birthdays already). But I don't know when that means we should start trying. I feel like due to having a premature baby first time, it opened my eyes to not actually really knowing, then they'll be born. Obviously, I know there's absolutely no guarantee of getting pregnant the first month of trying, but I'm not sure when to actually start. I don't want to wait for ages to start, and then it takes a while to even get pregnant. Has anyone else been in a similar position?
