My asd son is also a July baby and we got him trained around February because he was putting his hands in his nappy. It took months of just getting rid of the nappy and taking him every hour and basically catching it before he learnt to communicate to go. Maybe start in his pull ups taking him every time he looks busy or every hour. Put pants on over the nappy to begin with so he gets used to it. Unfortunately my son got picked on by the older years on the playground despite him being toilet trained and school mentioned it as an afterthought in an ehcp meeting.
Don't beat your self up my daughter was in nappies and pull up when she started school and she 12 now and she only started to wear knickers now and only nappy at night still. Its not lazy parenting. I tried absolutely everything when my daughter was little she wouldn't have none of it. If he hasn't Potty trained by the time he starts school and if he got EHCP plan and its in there plan to change him then they got to do it that what they had to do to my daughter.
Don’t beat self up about it I had this problem myself bring up to school or see if you can find someone to help you not easy being Sen parents.
Hugs 4 is still young. Where do they start school at 4? I dint think im going to start my lo in school until 6/ 6.5yrs. Theyvare so little
@Kirsty UK. Curse of the summer babies🫠 mandatory school age is actually 5 but they don’t make it easy on summer babies.
@Melody ah wow so young. Our mandatory school age in Australia is 6.5yrs. Thats tricky
Thank you all for your kind messages it really means a lot ! 🥹 ❤️
Is he going to a sen school or do you have an ehcp? Don’t beat yourself up about it, best thing is to ensure school staff are prepared, they’ll take it from there and any signs of bullying won’t be tolerated, if it’s a good school. Sadly i know from a lot of family members who have worked in mainstream schools that it’s more the teachers that take issue with it. My son will be 5 in July, still in nappies, he goes to a sen school and they’ve been so great with potty training that i’ve actually noticed massive changes in him when it comes to training at home, so sometimes school helps ☺️
