Maternity Leave

when i took my maternity leave i went 10 days before my due date. i don’t truthfully remember when i started the paperwork to get paid leave through the state (like PFL) but it was probably around that time. i’m in CA as well, they said it takes like 2-3 weeks or something like that (i had my baby last year in august so i don’t remember a whole lot) and it came in like the day before i had him? my work didn’t do anything for maternity leave so i went through the state. it just kinda depends when you wanna go, like if you wanna go in beginning of may id start filing now so they you’re set

In Cali At 36 weeks you are considered disabled. File for short term disability (if CASDI was taken out of your paychecks you are all set) the day after your last day worked. You will have a 1 week gap (unavoidable) then pay will start. It works pretty fast if you fill everything out correctly. I’ll attach some info that helped me. I had my baby July 31st last year and I’m still in maternity leave ( my job also did not offer anything)

I took off 4 weeks before my due date. CA disability covers starting at 36 weeks. I filled out my paperwork the day I went on leave. I got 4 weeks before and 6weeks after delivery for disability and then took my FMLA (binding leave) for 12 weeks. Ca automatically moves you from disability to FMLA when the time comes, the one thing you need to do is submit paperwork after baby is born

Yeah! Take it at 36 weeks if you can! I worked until 37 weeks and I may lose one of the take it or leave it weeks (4 weeks prior to birth) if baby decides to come by week 40-41. The paperwork is easy since it’s online. The only hiccup may be the providers form part. I filed mine on Saturday (4/5) and received my first payment on Friday (4/11). I have Kaiser.
