Rear and forward facing car seat

Bring on the harsh opinions 🤣🤣🤦‍♀️ Basically I’m in a bit of a dilemma. My daughter is 17 months and weighs 30lbs. She’s currently rear facing. I would like to and have always said I want to rear face as long as possible as I understand it’s the safest way. However…. For a few weeks now she’s started disliking being in the car after only 5 mins or so, so the rest of the ride is screaming and crying- I’m finding it hard to concentrate and drive . Songs will get boring after a while, she throws her toy down the side not long after being given one so we’re nearing exhausting all our options.. except.. forward facing. Now that’s my dilemma. I wonder if forward facing will solve the issue.. the car seat we have allows for FF from 15 months so we’re past that age. I’m just conflicted because I would’ve liked to continue RF but thinking of giving it a go next time we go out in the car.

My LG is hating the car too, I don't drive but I have to sit in the back with her on every journey and I get car sick so I have to look out the window almost constantly 😭 We have some toys that we attach these string things to, then we loop that around the headrest of the seat infront of her and this seems to help

Also good for toys on her buggy, or when she was smaller, on her highchair! They're brill

Have you tried putting her rear facing in the front so she can see you better? Maybe that could help calm her down when she gets distressed? X

If you haven't already got a mirror in the back I'd try that first, then she can see you. Being more upright could also help if your seat allows. Also try RF in the front (with airbag disabled) as being next to you often helps. But honestly, even if she still cries I would be extremely reluctant to turn FF. For me the difference in safety between RF and FF just isn't worth it, plus it's much more difficult to get a harnessed FF seat above 105cm, and the majority of children will not be ready for a HBB at that stage (ideally 5½-6yo minimum for physical and mental maturity). My oldest is 5 this month and nowhere near mature enough to sit properly in a HBB, so he'll be RF for at least another year if not 2.

Don’t know where you’re from, but some places have laws against forward facing before 2 years old!
