Contraception

What contraceptives are you ladies using? I’m on an implant and the combined pill because I’m trying to control really heavy periods but it doesn’t seem to be working. Drs have mentioned the coil but I just don’t like the idea of that. Anyone had any experiences with the coil?

Commenting to keep updated also thinking about the coil but scared honestly. I’m on the injection and my periods have reversed if that makes sense.

I've had the coil twice now - both times the hormonal one and it's been the best contraception I've had. First time was very painful being inserted but by next day felt completely normal. Had it again after my little boy and it was pain free. My periods are super light, only need panty liners. My cramps are very mild too. I've found I have no hormonal side effects whereas on the pill I was cranky as hell! I would say don't go for the copper coil though as they can make periods much heavier.

Also to note regarding the pain - first time I'd never been pregnant before so my cervix was sky high and tightly shut. When you've had a child your cervix never goes back completely where it was and is always a little bit open and stretchier - even if you haven't had a vaginal delivery (which I didnt), hence the 2nd time around it was much more comfortable

I’m on the depo injection xx

I have the coil! Ten year one! Highly recommend! No hormones in it - so doesn’t affect me in other ways! My periods are quite good, day one come on, day two heavy, day three normal and normally stop on day four! No major period pains! And I don’t have to worry about changing my coil for another ten years! No more uncomfortable than a smear having it fitted!

I think I’m actually scared of having the coil fitted though! Plus 10 years seems a bloody long time! I wonder if it will improve my moods etc, I think being on two contraceptives currently really isn’t helping my hormones! I’m pumped full of them with double contraception and my periods are horrendous currently! I’m often having 2 a month! It was 3! It’s so frustrating!

I went on to the one without hormones as I was piling on weight with other contraception! I’ve had one for the full ten years, then had one for three years, and had it removed when we started trying to get pregnant and then after having my little one, had another in! It also means, if you do want to try for another baby you don’t have to wait for the hormones to leave your body or whatever process that is - you’re normally pretty good to go the day you have it removed! And the removal process I haven’t found painful at all! :)

I’ve got the hormonal (second one) and it’s more the thought of getting it that creeped me out, but in reality it’s quite like a smear - bit uncomfortable with your legs open but over really quickly 🤣 I barely have a period now but it took a couple of months to adjust to that xx

I'm on the desogestral pill. I was on microgynon before I fell pregnant but a few months after I went back on it after having my little boy I started suffering with migraines so we swapped and touchwood this one seems to be better
