Painful gas

Hey ladies! My 17week old has always struggled with gas and for the first 3months even struggled to poo as he couldn’t get the hang of pushing. This has improved however, now every time he wakes up he’s screaming in pain from gas. Bicycling his legs helps sometimes to pass this although the last 2 mornings he won’t even let me do that as it causes him too much pain. Is this normal? Do I need to be patient and let his digestive system mature or is there something I can do because I hate seeing him in so much pain!

Just to add I have also tried infacol and dentinox to try and help him pass the gas but doesn’t really help

Is he formula fed or breastfed? My little one is very similar and formula fed but I noticed a huge improvement after adding lactase drops to his milk to help him break it down

I find some tummy time after waking/ before a feed really helps - 90% of the time there’ll be a massive fart or two if I lay her down for a minute or so, though I imagine if he’s screaming he might not appreciate the timing 😨

@Amelia he’s breastfed

We were exactly the same. It got to a point where he was having spasms because he didn’t want to be handled as he was in so much pain in the abdomen area (also BF). We ended up in hospital as I was worried the spasms were something else. The paediatrician gave us omeprazole for solent reflux and excess gas, he’s been a different baby ever since. Definitely push for something from the gp! X
