Oh I haven't had it prescribed! The health visitor just recommended we buy it! It costs £8.50 for a 400g tub. Obviously she's worth every penny but it's really going to add up! Thank-you, I'm glad it's likely to be temporary as after the 6 weeks we will be really close to weaning and I don't want to have to worry about lactose then
@Chloe you’re joking! I thought they had to prescribe it after gastroenteritis. I can’t for the life of me remember where I read about it 🤔 The formula is hideously priced, it’s so frustrating milk companies can profit so much on the back of something like this. We suspected our Dec 24 LG had a lactose intolerance, not related to any illness, and we started using colief, which has been amazing. Not suggesting it’s a replacement for the milk necessarily but defo cheaper than the formula, if after a few weeks you wanted to try something else. xx
I know it works out at £17 for the same amount as a normal tub of formula! She's worth every penny, and we're lucky to be in a position to afford it, but makes me feel for those who are already on a tight budget and suddenly it's an extra £5 a tub! I'll see how she gets on when we try introduce lactose again in 6 weeks but I'll make a note to try colief! Thank you!
This is such a useful post. I wish I’d seen something like this when I’d had my oldest. She had salmonella when she was born and it took a number of weeks for her to get over that & then the intolerance afterwards. The GP did say a temp intolerance was a possibility but they never prescribed lactose free milk, which I now believe is the routine procedure following any gastrointestinal virus. I’m pleased to say that it was temporary and she could tolerate lactose again afterwards. Good on you for sticking to your guns and stay positive regarding the intolerance, I’m sure it will be temporary xx
