To be fair I was like that with my 1st :D very limited amount of sugar till he was one. With my daughter now it doesn't matter what i do I'm finding her all the time with her brother stealing sweets from him 🤣 so definitely she will have normal cake :D
I've got 2 different cakes for my little girls birthday as we've got allergies joining us (her party is on her birthday). I've seen first hand what a completely sugar free diet does when the kid has access to sugar at a later date and it's scary to watch (this kid was 12 when she had sugar for the first time). I just want to say how lovely all these cakes are ❤️
My baby is one on monday and I got her one handmade from a baker she won't really be having much just a few handfuls so I can do a cake smash type photos at home

Okay I feel much better now!! We’re having a ‘some bunny is one’ themed birthday as it falls on Easter Sunday 🐰 so we have a very girlie pastel rainbow (rainbow baby) cake decorated with bunnies (Easter) and daisies (birth month flower) I’ve put so much thought into it, probably way too much but it’s so special to me! Fully aware that next year will probably be something hideous that she picks out 😂 so making the most of it!! She’s also dairy and egg free so thought the least she could have was a nice tasting cake when she misses out on so much already (cheese!!)
I did a chiffon care which has less sugar than the traditional sponge I think, defo less than the chocolate cake I also made but she didn’t eat it anyway 😅 none of my three have ever eaten much of their first birthday cake.
Ours is tomorrow and we’re also having a some bunny is one theme 🥰 I’ve had a cake made and not bothered about the sugar as she also had a cake smash photoshoot last week and spat the 1cm piece of cake she tried out 😂 we had to stick our own snacks in the cake in the end to even get her to look like she was interested in it hahaha But we’re not a sugar free house, it’s limited - she LOVES fruit and kiddylicious melty buttons and will really only have sugar if she tries something of what (usually my partner or older daughter) has in their hand 😅 a small amount will do no harm. Have a lovely party x
I made a completely normal cake, she only had a tiny bit!
I made the cake using banana and no added sugar applesauce but then left the frosting with sugar in. She was a huge fan of the frosting and it seemed like she only ate the sweet/ fruit bits of her meals for 2 days after. Like she would eat her banana or berries but left her veg and meat mostly alone which was uncommon for her. Seems sorted now but will definitely be monitoring sugar intake in the future to see if this anomaly repeats.
I made a baby cake for my little guy. I put fruit on top so that’s all he ate anyways. I had cupcakes for the guest. The other 4 birthday parties I went to had a normal cake and the other babies were eating it as well. I think it’s just a personal choice and like others have said a little won’t hurt
