Potty Training!!

We saw our HV Wednesday for our 2 year review and they said they usually aren’t ready for potty training yet and you will know when they are. If it’s not working or stressful leave it be for the time being x

I wouldn’t stress yourself out and put pressure on you and your child. They’re clearly not ready….but they will be and they will let you know.

How long have you been trying?

It’s still very very early. I would try in a few months.

We’re fully potty trained and avoided the sitting on the potty regularly every 20/30 mins method as it doesn’t actually teach children when their bladder is full so when they really need the potty (we as adults couldn’t try every 30 mins). We did naked from the waist down for 2 days, always reminding our boy to say if he needed a wee / poo and always checking so we you can learn the signs, a few accidents on the floor early on is a good way to teach them what it actually feels like to need to go - when they do start to wee or poo we quickly picked him up and got him on the potty - the key for the first day was just to get one drip of wee in the potty. It took less than a week to be fully trained. That said if she’s not ready, don’t force it as you don’t want to have any negative connotations with the potty when you try again 😊

@Katie Not very long this time. We tried a few months ago even tho it is early, just to see because she was telling us when she had a gone to the toilet in her nappy but was definitely too early

Thank you everyone! I think because she is in size 8 pull ups and everyone keeps asking if she is potty trained yet, I panicked that we need to sort this out now and seems I have put pressure on myself 😅 will give it the weekend and if not will leave it for a few months ❤️

@Lucy we have just finished day 2 of potty training and sounds like same method we are doing. So far we have had great success and just a couple of wees each day on that mat. I agree on the timings being a bit off. I know from nappy changes that my daughter can stay dry in the day for 3-4 hours so it seemed silly to try making her wee every 30 mins. It was also making her annoyed so I didn’t want her to associate the potty with something not fun so just let a couple of accidents happen and whisked her to the potty as soon as we noticed. Any wees get 1 sticker and any poos get 2 stickers. Lots of clapping and high fives 🤣

@Charlotte definitely sounds like the same method, we were dishing out stickers, high fives and claps like no tomorrow 😂 I’m pleased to report that after a week he doesn’t expect stickers every time and now just asks for the potty whenever he needs to go 😊
