Florida State University: will Americans ever care enough about gun control ?

After nothing was done in the wake of the Sandy Hook tragedy, I knew nothing would ever be done

The problem with gun control is it doesn’t matter how many laws there are, criminals will still do whatever they want. FSU is, unfortunately, a good example of this because firearms are prohibited on university and college campuses.

Nope. Those placated by the “guns don’t kill people, people kill people” doctrine will rather eat shit than entertain the thought that yes…sure, while it’s true that people pull the trigger, it’s the gun that makes the different between life and death. Take away the weapon away from the crazy person and all you have is a crazy person that is maybe throwing some punches 😂 and please…The knife argument is so pitiful. You go into a venue with a knife and an AR15, which weapon will be more fruitful? They also jump to the most extreme scenario and equate gun control with omg they’re taking our guns!! No…it just means tighter regulations on who can get their hands on guns…even if some criminals, looneys manage to get their hands on them, it’s still an effective way to reduce the likelihood. And maybe banning the regular public from having access to military execution style weapons isn’t such a bad idea.

Take mental health more seriously. They don’t go off themselves. More Laws aren’t going to stop CRIMINALS from being criminals.

They’re also willfully ignorant or ignore the FACT that studies consistently show that countries with higher gun ownership also experience more gun violence and gun deaths. I also love the argument that we need our guns to fight our government in case of tyranny, etc. and I laugh bc let’s be real…if our government wants to take us out all they gotta do is handle it from the sky. Our guns are no match against their 💣. It’s just maddening that they put gun ownership above human life when we are clearly having major and recurrent issues around mass shootings. And as time goes by and more shootings happen, people are just becoming more desensitized. Those kind of people will only care when it directly affects them. Okay, rant over.

There is no way to fully control the state of mental health of a population. The person needs to seek help, and most of them don’t. Or they fly under the radar. Besides, the US is not the only country with mental health issues. But the only country with all these mass shootings. So the mental health issue is another weak point.

Where did I say they caused it? Never said that. I said mental health should be taken more seriously. If you wanna believe guns go off by themselves, more power to ya.

@Maddy @incognito you’re right, it does sound silly to get rid of all laws just because criminals exist. That isn’t what I’m saying. Gun violence is a complex issue with various contributors that need addressed. Gun control isn’t and shouldn’t be the only answer.

Exactly. You have no valid argument. Because mental health is a reason. I’m not incognito… I’m literally under my name 😂😂 I have researched, which is how I came to my conclusion. Criminals will find a way to commit crime. Regardless of laws. So many things need to change and be addressed. 🤷🏻‍♀️

@incog no, I’m not saying it’s a large part of the issue. It’s a multifaceted issue. Depending on the countries you’re referring to, there are likely additional reasons why there’s less gun crime (like social & cultural norms).
