We used a Frida windi for the first time tonight, we had them in the cupboard for ages because I was worried to use them but he literally pooed straight away after hours of writhing around, he fell asleep 5 mins after and hasn’t moved a muscle. Might be worth a go if you’re really stuck one day x
Hello, please do not give your baby plain water if they are only a week old their kidneys can not handle it. It can cause water toxicity and literally kill your baby on accident. No caring doctor will tell you to give your baby plain water before 6 months old. Try more tummy time it helps push air out of their tummies.
I did a lot of research and chose to give my daughter prune juice when she was having intense tummy troubles at that age. It is safe to give 1oz per month of age. I mixed it in with my Brest milk and it worked wonders.
Did you change the formula? Or are you breastfeeding? Did you rule out food intolerance?
@Sophie we use windi! They have never done a ton for our girl, but we try it whenever things get truly desperate and she usually toots a little. So glad it helped your little one!
@Roz exclusively breastfeeding and I cut out dairy very early on just in case, though that doesn’t seem to have helped at all.
@Brittney her baby is 3 months old, it’s water. my baby was struggling, we gave her some and within 5 minutes she had a poop, stop scare mongering… it’s fine. talk to a professional
I want to add that physical exercise really helped our little one! When we feel like she was constipated or has trapped gas, we do bicycle legs throughout the day, on top of daily tummy time. Movement really helps them pass gas. When theyre that young, they need help. Once they get older, they can move around on their own and yes, it does get better. We also actively burp our baby, to make sure she’s completely out of gas before we settle her down for a nap or night sleep. I know it’s super tough now but they do outgrow it.
@Alexandra if you say so. Babies have literally died from having water though just the same.
@Brittney it’s really not the same. The reason why water is so dangerous for infants is the high risk of water intoxication because of the lack of sodium. Prune juice has 1.5 mg sodium per oz and breast milk has 5 mg per oz. The baby would be losing 3.5 mg of sodium, that’s not enough to cause water intoxication. Saying it’s the same as giving water and scaring people out of remedy is pretty intense when it is perfectly safe and a healthy way to give a baby relief.
@Alexandra ok so why did you bring prune juice into it? I told her not to give her one week old baby water. You aren’t recommended to give them anything else before 6 months by *smart* pediatricians though.
Have you given her cool boiled water? My health visitor advised you can give up to an ounce a day to help them go to the toilet x
